5.0 out of 5 stars The only mouse Ü need! Saves the hands too!
After using this mouse at work, I want one for all the computers I own. If you have alot of e-mail to review or your using MS Office products, this saves the wear and tear on having to move the mouse around. Using the scroll feature is worth more then the price of the mouse. This will be the last mouse you bye! Sure saves my hands from being tired from computer work...

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable and comfortable, December 10, 1999
This review is from: Microsoft 673-00089 IntelliMouse (Personal Computers)
I have had my Intellimouse for 2 years and it has been glitch free. The contoured design feels natural in your hand and the scroll wheel is a must if you surf the net, and read documents. It may seem kind of pricey, but you pay for quality and great design.

5.0 out of 5 stars 15 miles on one mouse - I'm impressed., May 2, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft 673-00089 IntelliMouse (Personal Computers)
I've had this mouse for two years and it has not had one problem. It is very comfortable, fits the hand comfortably and has a good feel to it. Rolls nicely and it is easy to unscrew the little cover on back for cleaning. (some micies have a pop off cover which makes me crazy)

I use my computer for work and play and kids use it for school and hubby uses it for business, so this mouse has been very well used.

One thing - I rarely use the scrolling feature. It jumps too far for me. I prefer to roll down the screen a line at a time or a page at a time. The scroller moves down about a half page - which I find disorienting and I lose my place while reading.

However, hubby *loves* that feature. (the scroller)

It also comes with cute features and software. Different on-screen pointers and cursors. And according to our mouse odometer, me and Mr. Mouse have traveled nearly 15 miles. Wow, that's a lot of movement on a mousepad that is 10" square.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST MOUSE EVER INVENTED, April 23, 2000

There is only one word I can use about this mouse and that is "INCREDIBLE". I have used about 15 mice so far and this one is definitly the best. I use it all day at work. The mouse is shaped to PERFECTLY fit the shape of a persons hand. In addition, it has the wheel which is GREAT for scrolling through documents, surfing the net, and even playing video games! Installing it is also very easy. All you have to do is unplug your old mouse and plug the Intellimouse in. If you are suffering from pains in your hand and are looking for a great solution than this mouse is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very ergonomic and inexpensive., February 19, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft 673-00089 IntelliMouse (Personal Computers)
I bought my Microsoft Intellimouse about 2 years ago and I'm still using it.

The contours of this mouse are perfectly designed for the human hand, when I had my old mouse that came with my computer, my hand would hurt all if I used it for more than about 20 minutes, and I'm only a occasional mouse user, but with the Microsoft Intellimouse, I find myself enjoying my mouse much more.

The Intellimouse also has many great features, most notibly the scroll wheel. With the scroll wheel on the mouse you can scroll through documents and webpages without having to move the mouse all the way to the little arrows and keep pushing the mouse button.

Through and through, the Microsoft Intellimouse is a great mouse: comfort wise, feature wise, and price wise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient, July 10, 2001

Microsoft stepped into the hardware market quite some time ago, and now has a lineup of input devices - one of which is the Intellimouse. I purchased my Intellimouse when it was a brand new item from Microsoft, and since then it has performed wonderfully for me.

The software included allows customization of the wheel usage, pointer speed, and the three buttons, plus an array of other miscellaneous functions. A cute feature in the Intellimouse software is an odometer, which measures how many feet the wheel of the mouse is turned

The mouse is set up like any other two-button mouse, except with a wheel in between the left and right buttons. The wheel serves as an interface for scrolling a document or any other open window without moving the mouse to the scrollbar. The software also allows for the wheel to be setup to zoom in on documents.

The three buttons, two of which are obvious, function just like any other three button mouse. The third button which is actuated by pushing down on the wheel can do many different things, such as close an application - this too is customizable in the software.

My Intellimouse continues to perform, although the wheel has become a bit slippery and the mouse has become less responsive. I clean the mouse every few months, and this remedies the problems for the most part, but they are to be expected with age.

Overall, the mouse is a great product, although now there is an 'optical' version that uses a laser instead of a trackball. This laser makes the mouse extremely responsive in comparison to a mouse wit the classic ball in it.

I have an IntelliMouse at home that I love so I decided to buy another for work, unfortunately this mouse has a scroll wheel that is difficult to turn, and is easy to press. This combo results in several unintentional clicks, causing annoying behavior in applications. At times I feel it?s easier to scroll with the scroll bars (which defeats the purpose of getting a wheel mouse). I would recommend passing on this version, and shopping for a better built wheel mouse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ergonomic feel is something you get used to, January 26, 2001

When I used my mom's computer before I went to college, I became very attached to this mouse. Now that I have a computer of my own, I couldn't stand the cheap two-button one one that came with it. Now that I have this, I'm back to that feeling again.

Unlike the newer optical models, you have to clean the mouse often so it won't junk up with dirt build up. This occured many times with my older one, so I would expect to have the same exact problem with this one. Also, this mouse has a smooth plastic feeling, not rubbery. It can be a little hard for the hand.

Other than that, it's a decent cheap model.

2.0 out of 5 stars Feels sorta cheap to me..., January 3, 2001

This review is from: Microsoft 673-00089 IntelliMouse (Personal Computers)
I really dislike this mouse. It's made out of a hard plastic and doesn't move across the mouse pad easily. The wheel couldn't of been designed any worse. It feels very cheap, and when you try to scroll with it it starts to zoom, because it jams up inside the buttons. I was expecting a little better from this Microsoft product. I would advise against buying this mouse, and buy an optical one. I guess you have to pay a little more to get more.

4.0 out of 5 stars As much mouse as most people need, unless you like RED!, December 28, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft 673-00089 IntelliMouse (Personal Computers)
I paid a few extra bucks for a "scroll mouse" when I bought this PC about a year ago (millenium present). I'd never used one, but thought it had to be better than the regular kind of mouse. Anyway, I expected some generic rodent, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a genuine Microsoft IntelliMouse when I unpacked the boxes. Now I find I was doubly lucky, because my mouse was made in China (it seems the Mexican model is not a winner).

The IntelliMouse is contoured for your hand, assuming you are righthanded. This seems a bit elitist since in my role as a computer trainer, I've come across plenty of righthanded people who prefer to "mouse" with their left hand. But since I'm completely righthanded, that doesn't present any problems for me. I find that it's well-balanced, and has a very "positive" feel in my hand - any lighter would be flimsey and heavier would wear out my hand/arm. The wheel moves smoothly when it's gently "tickled" along, and I've never had it jump too far when used in this way. However, if you press the wheel down, it goes into (an intially daunting) fast scroll mode, where you can move through the page just by moving the mouse. It takes a little practice, but makes browsing long documents/webpages a cinch.

When I requested an IntelliMouse at work, since I am the lucky person elected to convert all our documentation to HTML, typically they went for overkill and got me an IntelliMouse Optical. Now, that is a whole handful of mouse! My glove size is "large" (female), but my hand seems to be at full stretch all the time, and due to Microsoft's effort to make it suitable for left and righthanded people, my hand is at a slightly uncomfortable angle. Plus, I have to explain the red light to the passers-by who seem to be attacted to it like moths to a flame (they currently have regular wheel-less mice). I have no trouble switching back to my comfortable "home" mouse.

I've thought about getting an optical mouse at home, but I think I'd only be paying big bucks for a red light. It might be different if my home was PC a laptop, or if I used the Internet more (I mainly play games). I rarely have to clean my IntelliMouse (I don't eat at my computer ... much) and my desk has a retractable keyboard/mouse shelf, which probably helps with the dust problem (so much dust, so little desire for housework). I've been known to curse loudly when I loose my cursor while playing Baldur's Gate 2, but those are the only times I am not completely happy with this little rodent.
