good beginning, April 5, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft Access 2000 at a Glance (At a Glance (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
Whatever one thinks of Microsoft, Access represents the de facto standard for simple relational databases amongst Windows users. In contrast with the equivalent Dummies / Idiots books, this guide to Access, penned by Perspection - a Californian training firm - is great for actually using whilst sitting in front of the computer. The sections on Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) don't actually provide any Macro or VBA code, but at least show how to enter and run it, and how to get help. It's very sketchy in places, (e.g., section on charts) although perhaps not as much as the similarly priced Access 2000 Made Simple (Butterworths, UK). Access 2000 At A Glance will help to get one's feet wet - other books being needed to wet ankles, knees, etc!

Access made easy, April 5, 2005
This review is from: Microsoft Access 2000 at a Glance (At a Glance (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
There is a reason these At a Glance reference books are so named. If wordy reference manuals leave you puzzled then you are going to love this one. The tech writers used pictures more than words, and their brief instructions are clearly written, step by step. When people ask me how to do something in Access, I show them the picture in the book, go over the brief instructiosn and make a copy of it for them, and they become empowered. Immediately. I have several other Access reference manuals and this is the one that is used the most. It has the right answers and it has them fast.
