The book is very comprehensive. I have not read through the complete book as yet, however, the big advantage is that you can go to any section/subject and get the in depth information you require at any particular time. The information is also very clear and delves in great depth into each subject.

I especially like the complete samples of various database(s) as well as samples and code where applicable on the companion CD. With the CD you have the ability to load all these items onto your computer and make the references available at all times.

The greatest asset on the companion CD for me is the PDF file of the complete book. As I get older my eyesight is not like it used to be and I have trouble reading many books and periodicals. Having the book on PDF format makes it very easy for me to read.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

It has a lot of good content. The cd has a pdf version of the book and 4 sample programs. The samples are written in Access 2007 and none are compatible with Windows 7 64-bit OS. I managed to get one program to run out of the 4. The rest still need code debugging. This is an important problem because the book references and relies on its sample databases. The pages in my book were printed in very light ink. The diagrams/figures are barely readable with faint wording that's smaller than microprint. It's nanoprint. The publisher's website isn't helpful.

The authors say they assume readers are running 32-bit Windows 7. This should be said upfront in the book's description. Bottomline, it's hypocritical to use Access 2007 samples to teach Access 2010. And, the entire book has poor print quality. I'm returning it.

Ok, I originally posted that this was not 64 bit compatable. I contacted O'Reilly Media, and they linked me the files that will work on the 64 bit version of Windows/Access 2010.

Happy Trails.

The title of this book is totally misleading. Inside Out does not imply great insight or depth of coverage of the product. It is purely an acronym for its side bar or in-line comments (probably by the sub-author) on the main text. It is not aimed at the experienced developer, but at someone who has used MS Access casually in the past, or for very small personal applications and is now forced to upgrade to Offfice 2010, because you would never do it voluntarily. If you are a serious developer this will not provide any assistance at all to make the transition from Access 2003 to the 2007-2010 format. I am struggling to find anything that can help me to get my complex Access 2003 to run in Access 2010.

"Access 2010 Inside Out" is a 'must-have' reference. It is everything you'd expect from a series started by the legendary John Viescas, who is, in my opinion, the world-most authority on SQL (structured query language) and a top developer. Years before Jeff Conrad started writing books, he was building Access applications and sharing his knowledge in public forums. I learned from his posts (AccessJunkie) and great website (AccessJunkie dot com). Now that he is a member of the Microsoft Access development team, Jeff writes with even more insight.

As a long-time developer, when Access 2007 first came out, I had troubles with the new interface since it was so different. Inside Out gave me the comfort and knowledge I needed. I began using Access 2010 more than a year ago (started with beta version). Much of what I learned about the new features was by trial and error and banging my head. Now, this book saves me a lot of frustration and explains things in an understandable way. Like the earlier versions, "Access 2010 Inside Out" has a logical flow that is easy to read and exceptionally thorough. Once again, I have what I need by my side to dive into uncharted waters with confidence.

In addition to building applications, I teach Access and need to know that the information I am passing on is accurate. I keep a copy of "Inside Out" nearby so I can look something up if I have a question about the way it works or want to get ideas on how to better explain it.

Having the whole book on CD and being able to search it electronically is invaluable. I can take the book with me on a stick and read it on any computer. While the printed book is not in color, the eBook does use color.

I am a finance professional working as an analyst. I bought this book to better understand access.I tried to
learn access quite a few times, and i always gave up.The reason was that the book was not well written. What I
mean is I tried to go through books and followed the steps, etheir there were programming errors or what I saw on
my screen was totally different what was in the book. The CD is a great tool in this book. If you go chapter by chapter you can easily follow this book. A few times, i had problems locating files. Let`s say the author describing a function and then you have to wait 3 paragraps to see which file he wants you to open. It barely
happened, but there are a very few situations like this.

I had no previous programming background and sometimes you find outher books which are too easy or too complex for a non programmer.

I tried 4 books on access and i gave up, hoever I am very happy with this book. It teaches you everything step
by step. If you are in finance and want to learn access, then this is the way to go!
