5.0 out of 5 stars Objective Rating - 99% Dont Want Omitted Pages
I really like the In-Depth Series. But I bought a different book because of these reviews. Afterward, I quickly purchased this book. It is the most current version published and it shows. The missing 1/3 or 500 pages contains stuff that most of us won't read. Honestly, how many of us will be writing code for databases? Or, want to read about it? Most of us would rather...

3.0 out of 5 stars They only ship you 2/3 of the book
I just received my copy and was stunned to find that 500 pages are missing. The text stops after page 1006. Immediately after that comes the Index where page numbering starts at 1506. You can download a .pdf that includes the missing 500 pages. I bought the paper book because I wanted a bound paper book. I did not want an eBook. I can't speak to the informational merits...

You can download a .pdf that includes the missing 500 pages. I bought the paper book because I wanted a bound paper book. I did not want an eBook. I can't speak to the informational merits of the book because I haven't read it yet, but I am very upset about the missing pages and feel I should post this warning immediately.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sneaky ... It's not all there, January 21, 2011

When I ordered this book there had not been any user comments yet. It arrived today and the comments by Mr. White are exactly spot on.

I think that the fact that 1/3rd of the book is not printed should be mentioned prominently in the book description.

If you turn pages starting at the beginning of the book you can see that chapters 24 through 33 are marked (Online). Online also? No. Just online. I went to the index looking for Online to find the URL. Nothing listed. Not until you get to inside the back cover is there any mention of where you might go to find the missing chapters.

For the real deal, go to the que.com site. You have to type in 13 digits in the URL while the back cover tries to slam shut, but keep trying. You have to set up an account and in my case the first requested password was rejected because it supposedly was similar to my email address. It was not remotely similar. Using a well-known swear phrase worked just fine. From there you can download the exercises examples and the entire ebook version in PDF format.

For me, this is enough. I don't want to read on the Safari site, which you only have 45 days without paying. Signing up there was a waste of time for me.

Most of us would rather edit or adapt existing RDMS. The publishers made the right choice, download the info if you want it and let the rest of us carry a smaller book. 500 pages would have added 2-1/2 inches more to the width of this book. 1700 pages (5-inches thick) vs. convenience? I'll take convenience.

The book provides a website to download electronic full-versions in: pdf, epub (as in Kindle, Sony, Android) and versions for Nook, Ipad, Ipod, etc. That seems reasonable considering practically everyone lives on the 'Net. If you still want a cd - burn it! As for content, the title says it all - it's in-depth. That includes online support from the authors by way of samples, forums, blogs, training, updates and their actual email addresses. This 1200-page book plus full online support and e-reader versions is less than $30. It is comprehensive, well-written and your knowledge skills build naturally so you're applying it by Chapter 2. Amazon provides a "search inside" so I won't bother to list all the material that's covered.

In-Depth deserves 5-stars and I'm happy to be the first reviewer to give it an objective rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Online Pages of "Microsoft Access 2010 In Depth", February 9, 2011
This review is from: Microsoft Access 2010 In Depth (Paperback)
I've advised the publisher of the reviews concerning lack of emphasis on the ~500 pages of online-only content.

It should be noted that QUE publishing reduced the list price of the book by $10.00 from "Special Edition Using Microsoft Office Access 2007" ($49.99) and by $20.00 from that of the "Special Edition Using Microsoft Office Access 2003" edition ($59.99). Amazon's discounted prices are $25.50 (2010), $30.69 (2007) and $37.40 (2003). The discount percentage differs for each edition.

The online-only chapters cover advanced topics covering features that the Access team is deemphasizing in the 2010 version: primarily Access Data Projects (in favor of SharePoint back ends) and Visual Basic for Applications (in favor of Access macros, which Access Web Databases support.)

Thanks for your interest in my book,

Roger Jennings

2.0 out of 5 stars Love an hate, February 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Access 2010 In Depth (Paperback)
I love Microsoft Access 2010 In Depth for its depth and richness. However, I hate the book because it's not complete! It contains just two third of the content, the rest has to be read online. This is definitly not a good idea and I will never again buy a book with this combination. Either it's a book, or an e-book, it can't be both at the same time.
