4.0 out of 5 stars Testing for understanding
This book is a must for prepairing for the 70-217 test on Active Directory. The book is a collection of test prep question, organizied by test objectives. Each section has an introduction that includes exercises and references to microsoft white papers for a greater understanding of the test objectives. You will need to supplement this book with a good study guide, but...

I can't believe that I paid money for this book. After only a few pages, I began to find inconsistencies in what I was seeing in this book and what I had learned in class and in my other AD books. On cross-referencing many of the questions, I found blatanly wrong answers (e.g. implying that SMTP replication within a single domain was possible and assigning permissions...

This book is a must for prepairing for the 70-217 test on Active Directory. The book is a collection of test prep question, organizied by test objectives. Each section has an introduction that includes exercises and references to microsoft white papers for a greater understanding of the test objectives. You will need to supplement this book with a good study guide, but as a resource for practice tests it is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Master this book, and take the exam with confidence!, August 17, 2001

This book is like the other books in Microsoft's Readiness Review series. The CD contains a practice test, and the book explains the answers.

Unlike the other books in this series, the questions in this book's practice test are almost identical to the ones that you will see on the real exam.

Master this book, and take the exam with confidence!

This book should be the last book you buy before taking the 70-217 test. Study, get ready, and then use this book for review and to identify you areas of weakness. This book tracks well with the test objectives and has a good selection of the kinds of information the test expects you to know.

I can't believe that I paid money for this book. After only a few pages, I began to find inconsistencies in what I was seeing in this book and what I had learned in class and in my other AD books. On cross-referencing many of the questions, I found blatanly wrong answers (e.g. implying that SMTP replication within a single domain was possible and assigning permissions using OUs), concepts that did not really work in the real world, bad recommendations, and illustrations that were wrong (e.g. trees with discontigous name spaces). I am appalled that Microsoft Press actually let this book be printed in this condition.

Once I find problems with the accuracy of a book early my study process, I have to question the credibility of the remainder of the material. The entire book is not bad, but enough of it is inaccurate that it never should have been printed and it could mislead many exam takers. On the bright side, I spent enough time verifying the accuracy (or inaccuracy) of the information with the Windows 2000 help files, whitepapers, and other books that I REALLY know Active Directory better now.

This was my first Microsoft Press "Readiness Review" book and it will certainly be my LAST.
