This book lives up to the usual Microsoft Press book standard, it is well written and a very useful reference. It is organised as most computer books are and easy to navigate with a thorough Index and good Table of Contents. Only the most demanding Excel user would find the book contents fall a little short in a couple of areas. But I would give it 8 out of 10 as a good all round Excel reference. It has helped me and I would recommend it.

It should be said and a given that any electronic book reader will not be a good reference source. The printed book, however, is the most perfect of reference sources in my opinion. With that in mind, I would have to say that this book provides the most thorough learning and reference source for Excel 2010. Keep in mind, though, I think you should at least have some working knowledge of spreadsheets before jumping into this book.

I am a very big advocate of not only having a printed copy of a book to look down at while I use the computer; but I also favor PDF copies of the book with exercises (Microsoft fulfills all expectations in this regard). I am best described as slow and methodical and while it may take me a while longer to absorb things that a young computer genius may grasp instantly; I can assure you that when all is said and done that I will know the subject matter better than the young "shipper snapper." First the price is right, second because I knew that the subject matter would be difficult to grasp; I also ordered and received three weeks later, "Excel 2010, Step by Step" also from Microsoft Publishing and a tad easier. When used in concert; I have to say that I have impressed myself. Step by Step also is downloadable from O Reilly Microsoft books in PDF form at No charge once the paper back has been purchased--so go for it. Once you located the subject matter that you need using either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader using "find" under edit, one can print the page and proceed with the exercise

I find it rich in detail about many of the features of Excel. I would like it more if it had hands-on exercises or tutorials.

Although it's a bit late to write a review of Excel 2010 Inside Out, I'm confident that this review may be applied equally, or even more so, to Excel 2013 Inside Out. Prior to reading this book, I knew practically nothing about Excel. After reading most of it, I can honestly say that I now know Excel "inside out". I have read many scientific and technical textbooks over the years and have yet to encounter even one that is totally free of errors. While reading the 12th edition of Guyton's Textbook of Medical Physiology, for example, arguably one of the most, if not the most, highly-respected textbook on the subject of medical physiology, I encountered at least one factual error so far. That said, I was amazed to find that in a book of well over 1000 pages of highly-detailed technical information, I encountered just a few relatively minor errors in Excel 2010 Inside Out. After corresponding with the authors regarding those errors, I was informed that corrections would be implemented in the electronic formats of the book and in subsequent printings and/or future editions, such as Excel 2013 Inside Out. But, by far, the most outstanding characteristic of this book is that, unlike many software-related books that require the reader to follow along with a computer, this book is so clear and concise, and contains so many screenshots, I was able to learn and retain the subject matter just by reading the book alone! Now, that's the sign of a really great book. Needless to say, highly recommended.

As with all the Inside Out books, this one is detailed in its coverage of Excel 2010. This is a good book to prepare for the exam with.

bought 3 copy's for the accounting folks here at work and they love it. Very easy to read and have shortcuts for formulas and they love it. Purchased another copy because another person said this book it laid out great and exactly what I have been looking for
