Extremely Helpful!,
By Michael Christ "ITPro" (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unleashed (Paperback)
We spent the past 4 weeks planning our migration from Exchange 2000 and 2003 to Exchange 2007 using this book, and complted the migration last weekend with complete success! (14 backend servers, 1.8 terabytes of mail). The planning and sizing information was very helpful, the step by step guidance walked us through the process, and we're now down to 4 clustered servers with Hub Transport policies managing our incoming and outgoing mail. We also found the tips and best practices to be very helpful, unlike the Microsoft installation whitepapers that walk you through the procedures, this book actually explained what not to do as often as it said what to do which is EXTREMELY helpful when you are trying to decide which option to select compared to another.
I highly recommend this book to anyone planning to migrate their organization to Exchange 2007, the information in this book definitely helped us have a successful migration!

I agree with Mitchell there are some errors in the text..but there are a lot of features i had no idea were available in Exchange like Safelist Aggregation until i read this book. Overall it's still a good investment when learning the new Exchange Server.

Great Job!,

I bought this book after watching a Seminar where the book was repeatedly referenced. Glad I got it, lots of details that weren't covered in the Seminar and I probably would have tried some of the things on my own and have failed. The book stepped me through the migration process to a point where I understand what is going on. This is a GREAT book, I highly recommend it for any company migrating to Exchange 2007!

I rated this a 3 because it appears some of the content is not correct.
I am still in the process of reading this book but have already found many errors. On page 14 it states the "concept of recovery storage group has been removed" But on page 103 it states "exchange 2007 also includes support for the concept of a recovery storage group" Also in 3 seperate places it states that exchange 2007 standard edition only supports a 75 GB store. According to Microsoft, On their how to buy website it states there is no limit on database size and will house 5 storage groups with standard edition. Exchange Enterprise supports 50 storage groups and unlimited store size as well. So at this point I am a little skeptical of the content however I will finish this book because I am hoping it will improve and the unleashed series has been good in the past.

Poorly Organised and Bloated,
By James S. "JS" (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unleashed (Paperback)
This book is a giant plie of redundant double speak. Don't bother trying to read it in the contentional manner, and don't expect it to explain how to do something. This book doesn't not even try to accomplish either of these goals. A better title for this book would be, "how to manage an IT group that is going to use Exchange 2007". There are many places where its explanantion boils down to: "and then it just happens".
One could GREATLY improve this book if the didn't try to lump togehter a billion usage scenarios into one. They could just lay out the fundementals and then seperate the book into the 4 or 5 most common usage scenarios. A simple questionare of 5 questions would direct you to the correct section that best matches your usage scenario: 1. Do you already have an existing exchange system? 2. Multiple or Single Domains? 3. Multiple or Single Forest? 4. How many users do you intend to serve? 5. Additional considerations (mobile messaing, etc..)? A transitoning (upgradeing), single forest, single domain, < 50 user, and only basic exchange messeageing administrator would need to read less than 1/20th of this book. Instead, one has to wade through a myriad of details that are in no way relevant to the bottom line, setting up an exchange 2007 server correctly.

This is the worst Windows server book I have ever encountered. It is full of factual inaccuracies (the wrong name of server roles), grammatical errors and typos. I have no problem with it being updated from a previous version, and a lot of that is a copy/paste operation, but don't they have editors to check the work?

Not bad but not very good either,
This review is from: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unleashed (Paperback)
I ordered this book due to the fact that it was the first released book for Exchange 2007 on Amazon but apparently there was a reason. Live a earlier reviewer said there are a lot of errors in this book and it makes you wary if you can trust the things that are being said as fact when some of it doesn't sound exactly right.
Mainly this book is huge! going well over 1000 pages but so much of the book is just the same thing repeated over and over again. Also I don't understand the need to go into some many other topics in this book. This book covers so many other Microsoft products like AD, DNS, security WSUS, MOM, even how to install Windows server 2003! With so many thing going on in this book it's hard to find the real meat on what you bought the book for... Exchange 2007. I would say this book is a good reference guide and will be able to help you with your migrations but look for something else to pass exam 70-236 or to get a better grasp into the inner workings of Exchange 2007.

Excellent Exchange 2007 book!,
By Steve Wallace (Santa Clara, CA) - See all my reviews

I bought this book last month and we used it as our primary reference guide to migrate our organization from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Chapter 16 on migrations was EXCELLENT, highly recommend this book for any organization planning to migrate to Exchange 2007 and want tips and gotchas for the process. We also implemented Continuous Cluster Replication (CCR) and depended on Chapter 31 for our complete planning and implementation of mailbox server replication. Looking to deploy Unified Messaging next.

I needed to figure out why Exchange was receiving and not sending. This book did not help me troubleshoot the problem.

One of the best books in the market about Exchange 2007, it has a great section about project planning and consulting in general also. Great for planning migration from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange 2007, I highly recommend this book to anyone planning to migrate their organization to Exchange 2007, but make sure to look into other resources and check frequent updates about Exchange 2007 online. The PoweShell part is kind of weak compared to the other sections.
