So if you're moving from Windows 7 to Windows 8, your Explorer Touch Mouse can go with you.

Speed through long documents and spreadsheets

Explorer Touch Mouse speeds up everyday tasks with a touch strip that allows you to navigate with speed and control-and it provides a delightful burst of tactile feedback when you scroll through long documents, spreadsheets and Web pages. You can breeze past what you don't need with the flick of a finger, and stop with a gentle tap. Feel and experience the difference in how you work with your Windows 7 and Windows 8 PC.

The latest technology

Not only does Explorer Touch Mouse have sleek looks, it has features you can rave about. It includes three scroll speeds that use haptic feedback (light vibration that signals scrolling speed), giving you more control. Explorer Touch Mouse also has a battery life of up to 18 months and comes with BlueTrack Technology. Use it as you want to, with customizable buttons and customizable right- or left-handed use.

Conserves battery power

Explorer Touch Mouse even knows how to conserve energy. When your PC or tablet is shut down or hibernating, the mouse goes into "Backpack Mode." You can throw it into your bag and not worry if you turned it off because it senses that it no longer needs to be on.

Key Features

  1. Four-Way Touch Scrolling - Scroll vertically AND horizontally using the sleek touch strip. Flick up, down, and side to side to navigate spreadsheets, long documents, web pages and the new features of Windows 8. Scroll slowly with a gentle swipe or quickly with a flick of the finger, then tap to stop.

  2. Up to 18-Month Battery Life - Use your mouse for up to 18 months without having to change the batteries. Battery status indicator tells you when battery power is low.

  3. BlueTrack Technology - Take advantage of BlueTrack Technology, which combines the power of optical with the precision of laser for remarkable tracking on virtually any surface.

  4. Plug-and-go Nano Transceiver - Leave the Nano Transceiver (USB) plugged in when you're on the go, or stow it magnetically in the mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little mouse in a sleek package October 17, 2011
Color Name:Coal Black
I was setting up a KVM at work, but my existing mouse and keyboard setup wouldn't allow me to run Logitech's Setpoint with the KVM, I purchased. I'd constantly lose my connection for some reason. I did some research online and discovered this isn't unusual, so I instead opted to find another mouse to fit the bill. This may seem like an easy problem to fix, but unfortunately, I'm sort of picky about my peripherals. I perused the other mice at a local big box store, since I wanted to actual get a feel for the mouse I wanted before I bought one. Besides the Logitech mice, the other prominent maker at the store, was Microsoft. I know this may sound silly, but I don't really like the fact that Microsoft has their name brand plastered across the top of nearly all their mice. I think it's tacky. At the very least Microsoft could make their name smaller, but I guess they wanted to make sure you really knew who's mouse you were using. This isn't Microsoft bashing specifically, I just personally don't like it when the products you've bought are constantly advertising themselves to you. For the same reason, I hate clothes with the name brand written across the front of them. So the mouse get's kudos points for not being a billboard. It's slick shiny and there's not a "Microsoft" anywhere on the mouse. So if you're style conscious, you'll love this. One drawback of the glossy exterior, as you can imagine, is that the surface is a magnet for fingerprints.

The buttons are nice, stiff and responsive. It does work on a multitude of surfaces. as advertised. As an added bonus, I discovered it also works on glass table tops. Previously with my old mouse I had to create some sort of make-shift mouse pad for it to work on my glass table-top desk, but no problem's here.

The mouse clearly has 3 mice buttons, but is actually a 5 button mouse. The mouse can detect whether or not you are clicking the middle, the top, or the bottom of the middle mouse button. It does take a little getting used to get the function you want and to figure out exactly where on the middle mouse is the dividing line between the three quadrants. Also the mouse does not come with software, so if you want to tweak the other functions of the mouse you're going to have to download the drivers. So be aware.

My one minor critique is how the mouse attempts to simulate a real middle mouse scroll wheel using a touch pad. It does an adequate job, but it is still just simulating the behavior of a real scroll wheel. They go so far as adding a "rumbler" to vibrate the middle mouse button as you scroll. This gives you some tactile response to get an idea of how fast you're scrolling, but the sensation can be hit or miss. The vibration intensity can be adjusted in the software and also be deactivated completely if you like. Again, you have to download the software since it doesn't come with the mouse. On top of this, you can also quickly "flick" your finger across the middle mouse to quickly scroll up or down . This can be helpful when scrolling through a long list or a multi-page document or webpage. Unfortunately, the system sometimes has a difficult time telling the difference between a "flick" scroll from a regular scroll, so you might find yourself scrolling past what you want if you're not careful. Like any peripheral, I'm sure with enough time I'll get used to the little quirks, but that it what I'm dealing with now. Frankly, in my opinion nothing can beat the scrolling of a Logitech "MicroGear" mouse. Those mice have the ability to switch between the fast scrolling mode and the more precise ratcheted scroll mode through a weighted middle mouse button on a smooth bearing. It's really satisfying. But again, I can't use a Logitech mouse with my KVM setup.

Overall I'm happy with my classy looking mouse, and I'm getting over the fact that the scroll can be a little unwieldy at times. Probably not the solution for pro gamers, but works great in day to day desktop applications and design software.

Pros:
- Slick look/a nice conversation piece
- Works on clear glass surfaces
- Good construction
- Nice materials
- Customizable through software you need to download
- Customizable 5 button mouse

Cons:
- Middle mouse button scroll can be finicky, but customized
- Customization requires a download
- Fingerprint magnet.
- Can be difficult to find all 5 buttons

My title pretty much summarizes how I find this mouse and let me put it right in the beginning. *** THIS MOUSE DOES HAVE A MIDDLE CLICK. THE TOUCH STRIP CLICKS !!! *** and can be configured to do any operation that a normal mouse would do. I am surprised that none of the other user reviews mentioned it. Even the product description, presumably from MS, does not mention it explicitly.

Pros (other than those in the title):
I use the wheel and the middle click quite a lot. I wore off the previous mice I used within few months. The wheels started slipping, hence skipping the pages on the screen. The middle clicks ended up being just slips than clicks. The primary cause, I figured, was dust and mechanical wear n tear. So I wanted to go for something which does not have a mechanical wheel. I was hesitant to buy this mouse at first after looking at some of the low ratings and reviews. I had also considered the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse (Black). But I was not sure about the ergonomics of the Arc Touch mouse so I walked into a nearby store and tried both the mice. I liked this one a lot more than the Arc Touch mouse and the price is less too :). The arc mouse does not provide any support to your thumb and since it rests only on two edges it tends to topple on its side. This mouse is quite heavy and flat. The weight is distributed towards the bottom because of the batteries. This makes it very stable on a surface. The size is just right for an average sized palm. I use it for work (over 10 hours a day) and I do not find it uncomfortable at all.

Cons:
On the downside, the mouse has a very shiny surface and tends to pickup dust and fingerprints. If your hands are sweaty then it is hard scroll in a precise manner (which would be the case for any touch based mouse). It takes few hours to get used to the scrolling. You can control the scrolling acceleration and the amount of vibration feedback (which emulates a mechanical wheel). I would suggest keeping the vibration to minimum which not only makes it comfortable but also helps batteries to last longer. I have been using it only for a week now so I cannot comment on the battery life. I hope it is what MS claims, I will find out soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Mouse July 23, 2012

I'm a web developer by profession. I like a larger mouse, and this is about as small of a mouse as I can get without being annoyed by it. This mouse is pretty awesome.

As far as the negative comments go about "clicking" feedback, it's something you get used to. When I first got it, I found it to be dumb, now I love it. With a flick of the finger I can scroll to the top of my long pages and pages of code. You then tap on the touchpad to stop the scrolling.

There is no "flickering" as previously stated. That gentleman is most likely using the mouse from a mile away or his commodore 64 doesn't have the proper drivers.

I have purchased two of these so far, they are very durable. They get smashed into my laptop bag on a daily basis. The battery life is also outstanding.
