3.0 out of 5 stars Good resource, but lacking January 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Overall, the book is an excellent resource for those new to TMG/ISA configuration. It describes several of the new features present in TMG, but I was amazed to see that it had absolutely no information on arrays. Arrays are an extremely important addition to TMG, with both the Standard and Enterprise versions of the product able to utilize array functionality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good manual for TMG April 6, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is thorough and well written from a technical aspect. It is also the only Threat Management Gateway book in print at this time, as far as I know.

The only strikes against it...

It is dry, as you would expect from most technical manuals. There is none of the humor of Mark Minasi or the exuberance of Tom Shinder's writing.

I have come across a couple items that I think are incorrect due to the book having been written before TMG 2010 was actually released. Microsoft Press has a section on their website for updates to books, but as of my writing this, no corrections have been posted.

Some of the concepts in here could probably use a little more thorough explanation (for me it was NLB). But all in all, a well done book. At this point in time, I would consider this a must-purchase if you are going to use TMG 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars TMG Book Review April 1, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Excellent book, well written. Very strong in technical detail.

I would suggest this book is for the more experienced user and for those who want to learn and come to understand what makes this software tick and the principles that drive it.

If you are looking for a quickie setup guide then this will not do it for you.
This books' weakness is lack of detail in describing how to set up and configure TMG up from scratch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done! March 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
wow this new novel from jim harrison is just so long! it is his longest novel at over a 1000 pages! JEEZ! This is like his "Legends of the Fall" Winter-Spring--Summer and Fall again!! A must for computer buffs! I highly reccomend this tomb of Harrison's visionary journey into the mind of threats of managers! the friction is intense as the characters converge in the silicon jungles of Cupurtino! Don't miss this one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Use it as a reference material March 11, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Most of the information in the book can be found at Microsoft’s TechNet libraries. But what I like about the book is that everything you need to know about TMG is in a single 1000 page volume. If you have been working with ISA Server for a while, you may skip the book altogether, since not much has changed from ISA 2006. TMG is Exchange and SharePoint aware, but very little is found in the book about various ways you can publish Exchange Client Access.
