5.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY FrontPage book that covers it all!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not comprehensive covering sophisticated concepts.
I am a working Webmaster with a real-life web site built with FP 98. I bought this book in hopes that it will help me learn enough to be able to customize what I can do and really want to do! This book just didn't fulfill my needs.

For example, there was virtually nothing (unless one is involved in high-level CGI programming) mentioned or given about the simplest...

5.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY FrontPage book that covers it all!, March 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
1200 pages of excellent information! When I compared this book to others I was appalled at the enormous disparity. FrontPage 98 Unleashed was the only FrontPage book that actually covered all features and tools included with FrontPage 98.

FrontPage 98 Unleashed covers every feature of the FrontPage Explorer and Editor. These are the main tools for publishing and the text was excellent. I didn't find any errors and the book was obviously written with the final release of FrontPage 98. Some of the other books I checked had screens that didn't match anything to what my computer showed. This wasn't the case with FrontPage 98 Unleashed.

FrontPage 98 Unleashed has awesome coverage of Image Composer. There's like 8 massive chapters on graphics! I saw an entire book on Image Composer that didn't cover as much or as well.

The book also covers Microsoft GIF Animator and it was the only book I checked that did so. The GIF Animator is included with FrontPage 98 and it is userful.

You know this book is the only tell all and be all for FrontPage 98 when you get to the last 10 chapters. These chapters have in depth of using FrontPage with Web servers and advanced development. FrontPage 98 Unleashed was the only book to cover the FrontPage Server Extension Resource Kit in complete detail. You'll find lots of great details for remote administration, using server extensions with other types of servers. The book also covers the FrontPage Developer's Kit in complete detail and again was the only FrontPage book I looked at to do so!

With so much good things to say about FrontPage 98 Unleashed it is no wonder the book was recommened to me by the Microsoft help desk. I am very happy. Buy it you won't be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars A reader from UK, November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
I dont quite understand what all the fuss is over this author Stanek. His books are positively lacking any in depth understanding. I am only making this criticism as I have a collection of 30 internet related books. His books appeal to more 'readers' than 'doers' ie. people who think that by reading they have learnt the material. However for serious users and developers beware! It is clear that this book is written by operating the features found in the package and then writing about it rather than doing anything useful with it. Every time I hit across a problem and reference the book, I only find superficial information.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best FP98 book on the market, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
After struggling for six months with Que's "Special Edition Using FP98" I finally tried a new book. "Unleashed" is far better. I've learned more about how FP "thinks" in one week with this book than months of "Special Edition Using." "Unleashed" has detailed yet concise information and covers real-world issues. Compared to this book, the Que title is a quick reference card with hundreds of pages of semi-related filler. "Unleashed" is the one to get.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good..ish book for beginners, August 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
This Book is great for those people that have the time and the inclination to wade through 1000 pages and put up with the inconsistent errors that appear in the book.

Why can't people write accurate short books on these subjects ?

I am a working Webmaster with a real-life web site built with FP 98. I bought this book in hopes that it will help me learn enough to be able to customize what I can do and really want to do! This book just didn't fulfill my needs.

For example, there was virtually nothing (unless one is involved in high-level CGI programming) mentioned or given about the simplest web needs; such as expanding the very limited built-in FP search engine. I don't like it and my users don't like it either!

I want to be able to customize it such as I can for any other kind of form. No go. Not mentioned virtually at all in this book.

If you are a Webmaster like me and want to find some good technical assistance, go elsewhere! However, if you are just a "newbie" it's pretty extensive for you -- probably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pass The MS Exam With This Book, December 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
The other person who passed the MS exam with this book was right. Everything you need to know is right here! It is accurately written, covers all spectrums of enterprise web development with FP98 and is not written with eight-syllable words. It's straight to the point and I liked the fact that it's a 1000-page book at the size of a 500 pager.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners who know the basics of HTML !, August 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
A very good introduction into FP 98 with all it's aspects. What really is missing for advanced users and web builders are chapters for costumizing FP (images in FP navigation bars, search engine, SSL...).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good combination of a how-to and a reference book, June 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft FrontPage 98 Unleashed (Unleashed) (Paperback)
Generally good, but the Search engine (SearchBot) section mistakenly covers FrontPage97, not the new FrontPage98 SearchBot, which is much better.
