5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to MASTER FrontPage and Web Publishing!
Definitely THE book you should get if you are interested in FrontPage and Web publishing. I learned a lot reading this book and would recommend it to beginners and accomplished publishers alike. Mr. Stanek really helps you understand everything he discusses and because this book is 1200 pages it covers a lot of ground! I use this book to help me teach a class on Web...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars good on basics, VERY poor on advanced features
This book does a great job taking you from a novice Frontpager to an intermediate one. However, two topics are so poorly covered as to bring this books rating down (IMHO). The database coverage is a joke. Clearly the author has never used these "features" or he would have the decency to tell his readers that Frontpage is not useful for database work. The chapter...

I use this book to help me teach a class on Web publishing. Here's some quick start tips that have helped my students:

Beginners who are NOT familiar with the Web or Web publishing will want to focus on the early chapters (Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7) before they jump into more advanced topics. Be sure you understand the concepts of working with pages and webs clearly before moving on. Skip chapter 3, which covers how to set up an intranet.

Beginners who ARE familiar with the Web will also want to focus on the chapters 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 before they jump into more advanced topics. Be sure you understand the concepts of working with pages and webs clearly before moving on. Skip chapters 2 and 3.

Accomplished publishers may want to jump straight into the publishing chapters (chapters 8-43) but should skim chapter 1 to familiarize themselves with FrontPage publishing concepts. Unless you want to do advanced development or develop custom solutions with FrontPage you may want to skip chapters 24-26, which cover the FrontPage developer's kit.

FrontPage 97 Unleashed is a great book. I have all three editions. If you use FrontPage 98, you should buy the latest edition. FrontPage 98 Unleashed. This book took me from knowing nothing to being the on site FrontPage guru! I love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy something else!, April 14, 1998

This review is from: Microsoft Frontpage 97 Unleashed (Paperback)
When will the Unleashed people understand that we do not want a massive tomb to explain things? This book could have been cut in half and still provided the basic information needed. And I might add, in clearer and better writing. I do not understand the glowing reviews for this book. It is simply not the best for Frontpage. I came away from Don Doherty's "Teach Yourself Microsoft 97 In A Week" with a clearer head and a far better knowledge of FrontPage.

Stanek had me hooked ever since Web Publishing Unleashed. I don't read anyone else's computers books so natuarlly when I wanted to learn frontpage I was delighted to find this book. The book has tons of practical and useful information on frontpage. It has always answered my questions and helped greatly with difficult subjects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tops! Perfect for learning the basics and advances topics..., September 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Frontpage 97 Unleashed (Paperback)
Definitely the book you need to take you from the ground floor to the penthouse. I don't sing the praise of books often, but for this one I'll make an exception. It is a rare book that can help you through the basics to advanced topics without missing a beat.

When your sizing up the competition, stack this book's 1200+ pages against anything else you find. I did a close comparion of four other books and this one book section by section. I chose FrontPage 97 Unleashed because: A) it was the most thorough. B) The writing style was clearer and better organized. C) Better insights and tips. D) It answered all my questions.

Basics that FrontPage Unleashed covers wells are: Setting up, learning the tools, installing the Personal Web Server, helping you learn the important concepts, using wizards, using templates, using bots.

Advanced stuff that FrontPage Unleashed covers well: Table creation, frame design, forms, form validation, scripting wizard, ActiveX controls, Java, stylesheets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for intermediate webdesigners, September 8, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Frontpage 97 Unleashed (Paperback)
The book has many good points. It does explain most of the features of Frontpage. If you plan to use the database features though you might be better off looking elsewhere. It spends a bit to much time on very simple subjects, and not enough on more advanced ones

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners and advanced FrontPage publishers alike!, September 2, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Frontpage 97 Unleashed (Paperback)
I rely on FrontPage 97 Unleashed to answer all my questions and couldn't run our massive Web site with this book. Anytime I have a question, I know I can find the answer in this book. I give this book to new guys in our shop on day 1. The book is so good, I let it do the teaching. In a few days, they are up to speed on FrontPage, all its features, and can head off to work on their assigned areas. Proof positive that beginners and advanced publishers can put to use what this book discusses

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of Advanced issues!, September 1, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Frontpage 97 Unleashed (Paperback)
I use FrontPage 97 to run/publish our intranet. I was having problems and sought out a book on the subject. I compared lots of books and didn't find what I was looking for. I called the Microsoft FrontPage help desk to help me out. They recommended I get FrontPage 97 Unleashed and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

Inside you will find thorough coverage of basic, intermediate and advanced issues. Don't worry there's plenty of room for it all, the book is 1200 pages. Interestingly enough I bought the book because it covers advanced issues so well yet I find myself learning lots of neat tricks when I go back and review some of the more basic chapters. The author's shortcuts are terrific time savers. Jo Decker
