Rod's book fills a gap in the SMS world with his fine coverage of the SMS Installer tool. I both train and consult with SMS, and my students and clients have often lamented that more info about SMS Installer was not available. I have been recommending Rod's book to them for some time now, and all who have read it have thanked me for the recommendation. It's clearly written with practical examples for creating, writing and customizing scripts, and I highly recommend it to you as well.

SMS Installer provides very needed technical information on creating automated installations using this scripting tool. Rod Trent's writing style is very easy to read yet is still able to provide highly technical information. This is one of the few technical manuals that provides lots of screen shots so that you do not need to be in front of a PC while reading. Thank you Rod. Please write one on Wise for Windows Installer.

Rod Trent has created a great book that details the 'not soo much talked about' world of scripting with SMS installer.

Since reading this book and testing some of the 200 scripts made available on the CD I would have to say I have packaged up some applications that I was going to have to give up on.

This is a great book to read and allows you to appreciate the extent of utilisation that SMS installer really can have.

This book is a great reference for those new to SMS installer, as well as more seasoned SMS Administrators. It has a very solid "tips" section with code samples...

I attended SMS training (offered by a Microsoft-approved vendor) and found it somewhat lacking where SMS Installer was concerned -it focused more on day to day administration and monitoring and was too basic. This book was MUCH better. I refer to it often.

If you are new to Administration, I would also suggest buying the other McGraw Hill book "Administering SMS" as a companion to this book. Using both, you will be up and running in no time.

Its about time a book came out that actually shows how to script with sms installer. There are about 15 books out about sms and this is the first one to actually have anything to do with scripting, I guess 4 years is a better wait than never...

I finally got my hands on this book. Man this thing rocks! I am the defacto SMS guy for a 900 seat entreprise and this book has become my bible. There is nothing else like it for Installer. I am using it right now to write a package to set an agency wide ODBC value. This is a book by the foremost authority on the product...if you use SMS Installer buy this now!

This book contains all of the information necessary to quickly become an expert user of SMS Installer. For those who already are, it contains valuable information and resources to help get those software distribution projects done. I highly recommend this book to anyone who uses SMS Installer. It's well worth the investment.

Rod did some great work. With this book, I think Rod helped us Administrators with the deployment of software and configuration of our desktops using the SMS Installer.

This book is awesome! I've dabbled in SMS Installer for a while, but this book forced me to get serious about it. I love the way the book progresses through the product allowing you to go from beginner to pro. The flow of the book is very logical and the organization is right on target. And, the CD full of like 500 scripts has kept my nose to the computer screen for two days!

I can't believe this book is out of print already! This book stands the test of time. I just got my copy (from one of the used booksellers, sadly) and it rocks! For anyone who has not picked this book up yet, HURRY! Using this book, I have already completed two software packages I had given up on.
