Incomplete and full of errors,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
Full of errors, dry, and non-informative. Typical MS. Fancy box, good packaging and marketing, but not much on the inside. The kit contains references to functions on various property sheets(which is basically how IIS is administered) that simply don't exist. Example: on p.114 it states that, "SSL can be set on the SMTP SITE property sheet when configuring SMPT on IIS". This is not included on that property sheet. How can such a basic error be made by the product's own vendor, who expects to test candidates on THEIR knowledge ? Some of the practices do not work as shown. Example Chapter 14 using Site Server Express,(which is one of the most useful functions in IIS) The practices will not run as shown. This is my 6th exam in the MCSE series, and hopefully the last time I use MS press for any kind of education within IT. Every kit within the MSCE series contains errors, typos, page duplication, incomplete guidance, and a superficial approach to instruction. Any approaches to MS press regarding this generates a pre-generated or formulated response. In short: A poor, shoddy product rushed to the market. Like everything else MS

GARBAGE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
After a friend had studied this book, he advised me not to buy it, and to try some other. As I had purchased the 5 previous MOC books and passed all the exams, I wanted to see for myself how this book compared. Take my advice now and find some other book to study for the exam. This one is a big let down, confusing and a complete waste of time and money, and that's a fact.

Good but not enough to pass the test,

There are better and cheaper ways to study for this test,

This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
I found this book extremely ineffective as a study tool for this test. I passed the core MCSE exams by primarily studying the Microsoft text, and using the "4 dummies" books to fill in the minor details. However, I worked through this book page by page doing all of the labs, and found I knew little or nothing about administering IIS 4. This book also strays rather far from the material you can expect to see on the exam. I eventually passed strictly by studying the "dummies guide". You are better off passing on the Microsoft text, and if you want/need, you can put the $ you save toward other prep books on this subject.

Garbage,
By Steven (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
It's so badly organized it's sometimes painful to read. The book is rampant with non sequiturs, and when it talks high-end technology it ends up as repetitive nonsense.I can't compare it to other study guides, but I know I'm not going to be able to carry much from this into the exam. I should have listened to the majority of these reviews. Look elsewhere.

abysmal,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
By far the worst computer book I have ever read. Pompous. A lot of complicated paragraphs to explain very little about IIS. I have already passed MCSE and the IIS exam, and I know this book would have been of zero value. Don't waste your time or money.

Good for the exam, not so good as a reference.,

I have read a lot of negatives about these materials, but I can't agree with most of what has been said. (I have read the proxy component but not the IIS part.) This training kit is just that - a training kit. It is not a reference book, nor is it a "...for dummies" book either. I used the proxy server book with no practical experience at all and found that all the answers were right there between the pages, passing the exam no problem. (after many sleepless nights of hard study of course) This book will not make you a proxy expert, there are many holes and it is very dry - making reading tough at times. If all you are looking for is a book to pass the exams, this one will do it. All in all, a cheap alternative to instructor lead courses for those seeking MCSE status.

**EXCELLENT COVERAGE ON MMC**,

This iis4 is great UNTILL one gets to chapter 10 or trying to actually set up the certificate server with the lack of detail in the practice session. I was actually enjoying this one untill then. If it had continued on the way it was it would have gotten a much higher review than a 3 i feel the info on the MMC is at least a 5 but they botched this one just like they did the Tcp /ip.

barely enough information in book to pass test,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Internet Information Server Training Kit (Academic Learning) (Paperback)
Decent book with good layout but only the bare minimum to pass the test. The book assumes your passing Enterprise and TCP/IP. Basically, I would not suggest this book but as the first book of many tools to pass test. Be ready with hands on experience. You will need it.

Not the book to use as a Study Guide,

You can't get much worst than this. Very brief explainations on how stuff works and what it is. Mentions topics that it takes for granted that you already know about IIS4.0. This book should be taken off the market to prevent people from wasting their money.
