Weird button placement and loose wheel,
By Ann T. Ho "Ann T. Ho" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 Mac/Win (Personal Computers)
I wanted this mouse because it's one of the few 5-button laptop/notebook mice. All the other features, including the flash drive and wireless receiver were bonuses.
It's a good little mouse. It's a nice size and fits well in my hand. I haven't had a problem with its responsiveness and tracking. I really like that it has an on/off switch, can use BlueTooth, and uses a AAA rechargeable battery. The extra buttons on the side (I use for back/forward) are placed too far back for such a small mouse. I'd like it better if the extra buttons were on each side of the mouse like some of the old Microsoft corded versions. The scroll wheel is too loose which doesn't serve me well when zooming in and out of detailed Visio diagrams. The carrying case is too small to carry the mouse, the receiver, and the cord. It all fits but it's weird and bulky. It should at least fit receiver well. Finally, I read a review by someone else somewhere that the mouse is too bulky (high) for a laptop mouse. I didn't think much of it until I put it in my bag. It could probably be flatter. I would've opted for flatter and a little longer. Despite these cons, I still like the mouse and I'll keep using it until I find another notebook mouse with 5-buttons.

Great for windows, Horrible for Mac os X,
This review is from: Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 Mac/Win (Personal Computers)
The tracking is horrible on mac os x. It is very jumpy! I thought I had a defect when a friend of mine ordered the same mouse and had the same problem. However, this mouse works great for windows and is rechargeable and comes with a little case.

Decent features but poorly constructed,

This mouse has the potential to be great. It's compact yet quite ergonomic and feature laden. Battery life is not bad at about 3 days continuous use and the built in charging feature is quite elegant. However, it's cheaply constructed. Less than 3 months after purchase the buttons are already lifting off. Maybe I got a mouse from a bad batch. But still, buyer beware.

Packaging is a TOTAL PAIN TO open. It has guide for a scissor cut, but it is useless. It is impossible to open cleanly unless you use a sharp exacto knife. So don't expect to keep the box like you would on some higher end logitechs.
My Package Contents: >The mouse - its a pretty thing in a homely sort of way. The gray thumb grip ruins the look but the metal top is very nice. gray grip will probably turn yellow though. >Transceiver - big fat thing, larger than most usb mem sticks and usb transceivers combined. Will partially block a USB port if directly adjacent, still usable with small things. >Charge cable - thin, sorta neat looking at first >Rechargeable Battery - 900 maH Energizer branded. >Pouch - Has a separator in the middle so you can separate your mouse from the reciever and cable. There is room for maybe a SD card or another AAA backup battery. >Vista info slip - tells you to download drivers from website >"Microsoft Product Guide" - pretty much telling you every possible way can die or become seriously injured through usage of the device >Small CD sized quick start manual with CD inside - in 6 languages and its printed on nice paper with good illustrations, surprisingly complicated folds. Manual content itself is simple to follow (4 steps). USAGE: Feels pretty good in the fingertips, material feels really nice. Cannot reasonably be palmed. For a small mouse it's pretty comfortable. Compared to my VX Revolution, its shorter lengthwise but just as tall, the same width-wise. Ergonomically I probably prefer my VX. I've used the VX Nano, this is better than the Nano ergonomically. Battery door came off too easy at first, but once a battery is in there, it stays on nice and firm. I can see the battery door breaking or getting lost the future though. The two switches (power and BlueTooth/2.4 switching) feel well made. Thumb buttons have poor placement but keeps them from being clicked unintentionally. The wheel is slippery and smooth, so its not good for gaming; wheel does tilt though. The mouse glides pretty well, the mouse feet are the same material as their gaming mice. The deep green charge LED on the top is gorgeous... I am mesmerized by it. I need to ask microsoft where to buy that color LED. 1GB memory function is worthless as the file transfer is slow for big and small files but I didn't buy it for the memory, so I'm not gonna take a point off for it. Might be useful for an IT guy to carry around scripts and what not. Charging is kinda slow, but its better than most mice that don't even have a charger. Magnetic system is a nice touch. The sensor isn't that good, it's better than cheap mice, but compared to my VX it's definitely not as smooth. The laser will track on most surfaces. Wouldn't use it for Photoshop. The main buttons have a very very satisfying click and the sound they make is nice and quiet, low frequency, but still gives the right amount of feedback. Right and Left click make a subtly different noise. This is probably my favorite mouse to click. CONCLUSION: Get it, if it is in your price range. At the same price, get this over the VX Nano, get the VX Revolution over this. Get this if you need a Bluetooth mouse. Don't get this if you need a flash drive. PRO/CON: +Pretty +Ergonomic (for size) +Great Clicking +Smooth feet +Endless features +Price -Wheel is smooth scrolling -Tracking is decent not great -Side buttons suck -Need to install software to get the most of it -Packaging!!! GRRRRRRR

Cute little mouse needs frequent feeding,
By
This review is from: Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 Mac/Win (Personal Computers)
This is a mouse that my wife would love if not for the one problem. It's very cute and small to fit comfortably in her hand. However, this mouse is powered by a single AAA rechargeable battery, and a full charge only lasts about 2 days. It quickly became annoying having to recharge the battery every 2 days. We now use a charger to keep a spare AAA batter fully charged so that we can simply swap the batteries.
Except that one fault, this Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is quite a mighty mouse. It can connect to your laptop either with BlueTooth or 2.4GHz wireless using the included dongle. It uses laser to track its position with high precision. The dongle actually acts as wireless transmitter, 1GB flash drive, recharger and mouse wire. When you are charging the batter in the mouse, you can continue to use it as a wired mouse.

When we put the CD DRIVER that accompanies the MICROSOFT MEMORY MOUSE 8000 into our computer's optical drive we heard a screeching sound and there was also a lot of vibration. When we were finally able to open the sliding door of the computer's optical drive, it had been destroyed. Upon examination, the CD is warped. If laid upon a flat surface it won't lay flat, if held sidewise, one can see a visable warp. Evidently the computer's high-speed "turntable" can be thrown off due to the warping of the CD. We have, many times, contacted the vendor, IOquest (also known as URITEM). We have questioned them several times and they have never taken the opportunity to deny that they have sold on AMAZON warped CD DRIVERS and will continue to do so in future. It is their contention that a CD can do no harm because it is only a storage device. They have done nothing for us and are unlikely to do anything for you either, if you fall prey to this. We are certain that MICROSOFT did not ship from their factory warped CD DRIVERS and it is wrong for IOquest to sell these defective devices as if they were new. We emphatically recommend you not use the CD that comes with the mouse. Some other possibilities would be to download (free-of-charge) from MICROSOFT the necessary software. Alternatively, one might purchase this device from a more reputable vendor on AMAZON, or purchase from a trusted local merchant in your home town. Best of luck, and hope you don't need it.

Nice Wireless Mouse...with problems,
By
This review is from: Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 Mac/Win (Personal Computers)
I wanted a wireless mouse for my laptop so I could get rid of the annoying wires; I chose bluetooth so I wouldn't have to use up one of my USB ports. So far it works great. Nice feel in the hand, great responsiveness, looks pretty customizable, in terms of programming the buttons, etc. The only thing I don't like about it is that charging has to be done through the flash drive. It took what seemed lie a long time to fully charge the battery, and during that time I had to work with the flash drive sticking out of the side of my laptop, which I found annoying. I don't need the flash drive, and I'd have preferred this to come with a small transceiver more the size of the micro-transceiver that came with my Microsoft Arc wireless mouse (which I love and use with my desktop PC). And considering that the mouse does come package with the flash drive, it would have been nice for the flash drive to come preloaded with the IntelliPoint software, since my netbook can't use the included CD. Those objections aside, though, once I got this little mouse up and running, I was loving it...except that two weeks later it started to freeze or act weird at odd moments. Usually pulling the battery and putting it back in has worked to get it going again, but this morning I had to go through that several times, turn it on and off a few times, set and reset the bluetooth button a few times before I could get my cursor to move again. I am becoming frustrated... Now I'm not so sure I'm pleased with my purchase or that I'd recommend this to anyone else.

I have used microsoft keyboards and Mice before and love the desktop elite keyboard and mouse. I needed a travel mouse for undocking and travel but did not want to do without the 5 button mouse. This one works with blutooth or included wireless transmitter. Connects easily. Charging is by a magnetically attached cable. Mouse can be used while tethered. Side buttons are a little hard to differentiate but you get used to it.
I looked at a lot of mice and did not see any that grabbed me besides this one. I would highly recommend this product. Comes with a 1 gig memory in the charging usb key but this is superfluous since I do not use it but I can see that it could be helpful if I needed a memory key.

Ok mouse,
By Mary Jane (CT) - See all my reviews

I was debating between buying the Microsoft mobile mouse 8000 and the presenter mouse 8000. I wanted a mouse that was cheap, compatible with Vista (yes, I still have Vista and I refuse to switch over to Win7 which is basically Vista that is compatible) and I also wanted a mouse that could be charged so that I did not have to worry about replacing batteries. I decided to go with the mobile mouse, which I bought elsewhere for less than amazon is selling it for, instead of the much pricier but fancier presenter mouse. Now that I have received the mouse and have started to use it, I regret my decision. The mouse is small and it also has an odd shape which makes it uncomfortable to use. Also the dongle is huge! It is actually larger than my 32GB Kingston USB flash drive. On the plus side, it does function and is compatible with Vista and I do not have to worry about charging the mouse. I have also noticed that I can use it on a table without a mouse pad. I have no idea how long the battery lasts since I have only used the mouse for 1 day. Overall, I think that if the mouse had a similar shape and size to the microsoft 7000 mouse which I also have, I would give the mobile mouse 5 stars.
