Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

You're no dummy. You chose Office 2000 because it's powerful and popular, and you expect you'll be able to boost your productivity prodigiously. You're right, but there's a better way to learn how to use it than just diving in cold or frantically juggling all those manuals: Microsoft Office 2000 6 in 1.

This book calmly leads you through every step of the most common and important tasks involved in navigating Windows and Internet Explorer 5 as well as the Office suite: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and FrontPage. The lessons are divided neatly and are well-indexed--so you can find what you need without too much trouble--and each function proceeds stepwise with illustrations and screen shots as needed.

There's plenty of room for expansion in this content-heavy book, so once you've covered the basics, you can return section by section to learn extra tips and in-depth material when you're ready. Appendices cover installation, getting online help with the Office Assistant, and object linking and embedding (OLE), so beginners and more advanced users alike can get the information most useful to them. Of special interest to graphics-heads are the chapters on the Photodraw imaging package for use with FrontPage and other picture-using programs.

This book treats the reader with respect and quickly moves from chapter to chapter with a minimum of nonsense. Even if you feel like a complete idiot when confronted with all this new software, Microsoft Office 2000 6 in 1 won't treat you like one. --Rob Lightner --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

From the Back Cover

This book offers integrated support to all the components of Microsoft Office Small Business Edition and Windows 95/98. This edition continues to feature and improve on the strong coverage of small business components of the software. The user will quickly be able to learn the main applications of the Office Small Business Edition by using the five core sections of the book: Windows 95/98, Word 2000, Excel 2000, Publisher 2000, and Outlook 2000 along with the sixth section covering small business solutions. In addition, the Windows 95/98 section includes coverage of the integrated Internet Explorer 4 component in Windows 95/98 and Internet Explorer 5 from Office 2000. The approach of this book is a step by step tutorial broken down into short, easy to digest lessons. Most of the lessons can be accomplished in ten minutes or less, like the famous Ten Minute Guide series and the new STYS in 10 Minutes.

If you have office 2000, you "need" this book! The examples are clear. The author guides you through each component of office 2000 in a clear, well-illustrated, step by step manner. Highly Recomended!

1.0 out of 5 stars If you know half of everything, you're OK... but which half?, June 13, 2002

(REAL NAME)
All I want to do is make a Table of Contents in a Word document. It tells all about how to make the table, but not mark the items which I wish to include in the table... I guess that's just too basic for them to bother including. All and all, if you know at least half of what you need to know, this book will provide the other half. The question is, how do you know which half they include and which half you know. I've found this a lot in the QUE books. They just don't have the patience to give a good "step 1, step2, etc." process for those of us that bought the book to learn. So, if you want a book that might, just might, answer half your questions half of the time, then this isn't so bad. If you, like me, need a good resource that will take you from the beginning through the end of a process, then don't buy this book. I don't buy any of the QUE books anymore for this reason.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD AND COMPLETE, September 17, 2002
By
reviewer (Zurich, Switzerland.) - See all my reviews
This book presented quality information on the complete application suites of the Microsoft Office 2000. It is easy to follow, and includes substantial information on Internet Explorer 5.0, Windows '95, '98, and NT.
My only disappointment with it is that it offered summarized information on PhotoDraw.
