Ed Bott and Carl Siechert make a terrific team providing clear susinct technical writing. This book is no exception.

Having said that, I am gravely disappointed by the publisher's marketing move. All the Inside-Out books published by Microsoft Press (O'Reilly) used to come with a CD containing the full book in electronic form. Honestly, my collection of Inside-Out books gather dust on the shelves, but the searchable electronic copies are on my notebook harddrive whenever and wherever I need them. With THIS book, O'Reilly makes the electronic version of the book available as an online web site - but ONLY after you create an account with O'Reilly's Safari Library. You also get free 'Tips', which is a thinly disguised way to market you for more books. I don't always have fast Internet access, and sometimes such access might cost me as much as I paid for the book. If you want to put a copy of the book on your harddrive - pony up for a subscription - the cost of the book no longer includes local electronic storage rights.

It looks like O'Reilly is following the path blazed by the airlines by unbundling services and charging additional fees. Come on! Charge a fair price for the book and give me the electronic version! As a business traveller I'm waiting for the hotel industry to jump on board this sad trend and put coin operated toilet paper dispensers in their rooms.

To anyone who has purchased past series titles, definitely get this here. This book is several hundred pages thinner, and in the biggest change, there is no CD included. There has always been a CD with the Windows and Office versions in the past. Still a good book, but not so good a buy anymore.

Good basic overview and reference of Office 2010. On line access to electronic edition is not clear or easily accomplished, so my assessment relates to the printed book only. If you want to install and be guided through the most common features of Office 2010, this will do a good job. I've since purchased the Outlook Bible (written) and an electronic version of Excel to get to the detailed feature use I was looking for. I would have purchased individual Word, Excel, and Outlook publications as these programs were of the greatest interest to me and I was looking for more detail and application of feature examples than were provided.
