Book Description

157231916X 978-1572319165 January 1, 1998 Macintosh ed.
"Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition At A Glance" is the newest addition to our popular At a Glance series. This edition will cover all the products in the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition suite:

- Microsoft Word 98 for the Macintosh

- Microsoft Excel 98 for the Macintosh

- Microsoft PowerPoint "RM" 98 for the Macintosh

Like our bestselling Microsoft Office 97 At a Glance, this title covers each application with its own section, including chapters on using applications within the suite together, such as Word and Excel. The book also shows how to use common elements in the suite, and it covers Web publishing techniques using Office. Like the other titles in the At a Glance series, "Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition At A Glance" gives readers a fast and easy way to solve problems and get work done with their favorite Microsoft applications. Small and modular, it uses plain English and extensive, visual, task-oriented spreads so readers can jump in and out of the book to find what they need without wading through a lot of detail.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good on formatting, fair on operations, July 10, 1998
This review is from: Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition at a Glance (At a Glance (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
I bought this book mostly because I wanted to learn Excel quickly. The book covers formatting extensively but there is very little on how to make your spreadsheet work, on how to actually get the program to make calculations. I wanted to do crosstablulatons, which is handled differently than in earlier versions of Excel. The term wasn't even mentioned in the book. Now they use pivot tables, which were not described adequately. There are few books out there about the new version. This one was frustrating.

2.0 out of 5 stars Procedures and advice are vague., May 29, 1998

This review is from: Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition at a Glance (At a Glance (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
If you need a quick answer to a specific question, this is not the book for you.For example, I wanted to have the new Excel save my work automatically as my prior Excel did. But how? I asked myself with this upgrade. A search of the menues gave no answer, nor did the little guy in the corner of my screen or the Office 98 web-sight. So I purchased this book. The index offered no help. And a detailed search did not hint at the need to save periodically, much less does it indicate the trick to the solution-use the "add-ins" comand under "TOOLS". [In Word you can set auto-save in the preferences comand area.]

I found the book confusing. Looking to try-out the organization chart feature, I found page 44 directing that I " click the insert menue, point to Picture, and then click Organization Chaart."

I was flumixed, which program should I be in?, or is the org chart feature part of the central Office control commands?? Surprise! It's available in all the program parts of Office. Wow, that should be highlighted in this guide.

I awaite the Bible.
