2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book.
I have never found the Shelly Cashman series to be very good. But I needed some additional Access 2007 problems, and so I purchased this book. The approach to topics is rather haphazard, and they are not presented in a systematic way that would aid you in retaining the information. Much better is the Access 2007 text by Joseph J. Adamski and Kathleen T. Finnegan.

A lot of people complain that the Shelley Cashman series are too step-by-step and are boring, but I think it is precisely the step-by-step nature of the series that sets it apart from other computer texts. Everybody learns differently and some people don't have an intuitive nature with computers, which is why the Shelley Cashman series is perfect for a wide range of people. Access 2007 is no different. It has very clear and thorough projects for the student to work through, so they can learn every aspect of the program as well as online testing and additional projects for the student. The comprehensive concepts and techniques version is worth every penny, because the other version only cover part of the topics, but this book covers everything. After completing this book, you will truly be competent at Access 2007, and you can even take a test to be certified in it. I couldn't be happier with this book, unless they changed it to a spiral-bound version or something more durable, because it can take a beating just by using it frequently.

5.0 out of 5 stars MS ACCESS 2007 GREAT BOOK, January 22, 2012

This review is from: Microsoft Office Access 2007: Comprehensive Concepts and Techniques (Shelly Cashman) (Paperback)
I am using this book Ms Office for Tutorial and must say it is a Excellent Book to use also with the use of the data files that you are able to download with the book. That makes it easy to get a better understanding of the lessons. Ms Access 2007 helps to give a better understanding of the Database. There are different types of Ms Access 2007 and I like this one of the Comprehensive Concept, due to it gives more Details of the explanation of the database. This book gives alot of pictures and gives you visual of how your work is suppose to look like after you have completed the lessons. The lessons are easy to understand. The Ms Office Access 2007: Comprehensive Concepts and Techniques is a Great Book to chose, This Book is Very Detailed, and before I ordered this book I had no experience using Access and this book has given me a better understanding of using the database, with the use of all the lessons in the book.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I must say I will never buy a new book of this sort again. When it arrived, it was like off the shelf.

I already have the books for Excel and PowerPoint from a class I took last year. I really want to learn more in Access, so I got this because I already knew how it would be laid out and walk me through exercises. It was exactly what I was expecting and what I wanted.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's your basic step-by-step Microsoft textbook, June 5, 2011

There's not much to say except I saved a ton buying it here and used. I got the book for like $25 with shipping and it normally goes for over $100 new. As far as content, it's the same as any other step-by-step application oriented Microsoft textbook. It was used in a college level, although entry level, class (specifically; MS Access 101). You will have the skills you need to function in an entry level to intermediate level on the job requirement if you complete this book. In our class we only went to Chapter 3, it was a Summer class and only lasts 8 weeks. If you need to learn Access, this is a fine tool as any, especially if the price is right.

I highly recommend this book, Microsoft Office Access 2007 Comprehensive Concepts and Techniques. I do suggust that you take other computer classes related to this field. Other computer skills, such as Excel is very helpful, before using this book. I like the way it is set up.
