First, the good news. After spending a month with Microsoft 365 Small Business Premium, I have it installed on 3 computers in different locations and on my phone, all of which have simultaneous access to the latest Office programs and more than 100 gigs of data I’ve stored on the Microsoft cloud. I can sync any or all of that data on any or all of my machines, so that if I make changes to a file in one location, the file is automatically updated on all my other machines. Similarly, my email, contacts and appointments are coordinated across all the machines, with any changes made on one automatically reflected on the others.

I run a one-man operation from multiple locations, so I have no need of the extensive collaboration tools embedded in Small Business Premium set of services. Even without them, the annual subscription fee, while not cheap, seems reasonable for what I’m getting, which is a seamless, multi-location and mobile Office experience with internet access to my data and programs whenever needed and ample cloud storage. No more data backups. No more worrying about Outlook .pst files. No more deleting the same email 3 times. No more uncertainty over whether or not I’m working with the latest version of a Word document. If I’m away from my own computers, I can log onto the Microsoft portal from any computer with internet access and get work done.


Now, the bad: the glitches. It took countless hours over the past month to get all the program up and running on all three of my computers, including over 12 hours on the phone with various Microsoft support engineers, some of whom were very helpful and others who were simply confused. Most of the difficulties involved syncing the data on my machines with the Microsoft cloud.

This is the OLD version of this software and the Product Key does not provide an evergreen solution for small businesses (they aren't upgrading this... it's the old solution). When this is initialized you get the old experience (Small Business Premium) and NO EASY WAY to "upgrade" to "Business Premium" without losing your subscription (for which I still have no resolution on yet). Need Multi-Factor Auth? Nope. Need access to the new Control Panel in Business Premium? Nope. VERY FRUSTRATING.

If you really need your work and need to get logged in..don't trust it.
I was trying to get online for over an hour and all I get for a response is, " our servers are currently having 'temporary' problems. Please try again."

I looking back to the choices of Open Office, or something else, I expect from Microsoft things to be working - period.
They charge enough money for software, there shouldn't be an issue with servers being down at all.

For a company to be so critically worried about software licensing from everyone else, yet, they can't keep their servers up when the customer needs them?

If you download and run stuff from your own computer great, but sharing and logging in, don't trust it to be there when you need it.

Office 365 is a very good program that does lots of really useful things as it syncs to onedrive and sync s all your windows 8 computers - but, be very careful - there is no support for office 365 and onedrive when you have a problem. I am a independent salesperson who is very techno savvy. I have the 5 license version as I have 4 computers and 2 assistants who access onedrive to get files. Every once in a while, this very complex software gets screwed up and things quit working. because of this, I now backup to a portable hard drive all of my skydrive - onedrive data. Trust me - we lost it all - yes, all the data on one drive once and had to reload from the portable drive to a local computer and then on to the sky which took about 3 days.

Be advised, while MS does have a number to call - you will get no support so you are on your own to make everything work together. I use Outlook, the one drive w 200 gig plus of data there, 4 computers all with windows 8.1 all with office 365 running and today we had major problems - I have spent over 4 hours on the phone getting cut off and switched from department to department on the MS support line - on their support number they put you one hold and then cut you off. then when you talk to someone they say I am in the wrong department and transfer and cut you off. It is just a total mess.

MS is selling very, very useful software but it is very, very, very complex stuff that needs support every now and then. I am to far into this whole thing that to change now is just not an option - so Microsoft has me hooked - but, sometimes I spend all day - like today - on hold trying to make it work.

Platform for Display: PC/Mac Key Card Verified Purchase
I currently have 5 Small Business Premium Licenses (1 Year Subscription) for my business that I purchased through Microsoft. My environment is expanding so I needed one more user license for Small Business Premium. So, I purchased this product key offering 1 user - 1 year Subscription to Small Business Premium (which I currently have for all my other users). I received the Product Key in the mail and when I went to active this product key to add the subscription to my current pool. I received and error telling me it could not add the license because my 365 account was not the same. Very confused by this I contacted Microsoft's 365 tech support. They told me that "They understand the confusion, but it can not be done.". I reiterated that this was the exact same license that all my other users have (Small Business Premium 1 year subscription) and that I didn't understand how this is different. The response I received was "I know they are the same but you can not add this product key to your account". He then proceeded to send me to the billing department (which hung up on me three times). They told me they would not honor this product key as well.. So very long story short, you cannot add this to an existing Office 365 account and I'm out 86 bucks.
