5.0 out of 5 stars An interactive experience - a grad student's perspective February 28, 2013

I don't think linearly, and most of my professors don't as well. With the usability and robustness of OneNote, I can track easily what the professor is saying and referencing without losing my place.

The drawing feature is such a lifesaver, especially for professors who likes to make "scribbles" and illustrations on the side. The audio recorder feature that appears alongside your notes gives an added functionality to your note taking experience and makes for easy referencing. The sharing feature is also a great plus for collaborations with others who can make real-time changes, which can be done on the web if they don't have OneNote. There are many other features that OneNote offers that make it stand out from the rest.

A side note: with OneNote, my lecture notes from a night class is infinitely better than ones I had made in Word in my best mind. OneNote makes note taking not just a task, but an interactive experience.

There is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it can only help in whatever you need to do - lecture notes, meeting minutes, making plans with loved ones across the globe, etc. This is an all-in-one must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great features ..... July 30, 2013

Our Engineering department uses the window screen shot function on a daily basis. When creating work instructions they can screen shot detail views of parts and incorporate them into their document. We started out with one user, it caught on fast and now the entire group uses it. Very user friendly. There are alot of other functions that can be used, depends on your needs.
I would see what other options it has to offer if you are interested.

I am a OneNote 2010 user and just upgraded to 2013. I have been using 2013 for a few weeks now.

Why I like it: The slight improvements to the user experience are worth the upgrade, the way new pages are created, I LOVE the integration between excel and OneNote. You can embed a excel file in OneNote and have it open automatically in excel, when you save the excel file it just updates the OneNote page. I have been wanting this for a while.

Why I hate it: I really don't like the colors of the application, the tab colors, the navigation menus, all of it actually. Microsoft is going for this smooth look, but it just looks washed out. I prefer separations and borders to define tabs, workbooks, menu items. It somehow strains my eyes.... Please offer an Office 2010 skin pack or something!!!!

Took off a start because you can't change the colors of the user interface to something solid. Don't give me shades and hues!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best note taking software I've found February 28, 2014
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
One of the best pieces of software Microsoft makes.
Right up there with Visual Studio and Windows 7.

I've tried many note software, Evernote, Penultimate (before it was of Evernote), Google Keep, etc. I searched for open source equivalents and found none. This is by far one of the best productivity applications out there. I've been using it for 5 years and I can honestly say that it would be hard to work without out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product. October 7, 2013

I consider OneNote to be the hidden treasure of MS Office. OneNote 2010 was very good but it had major issues when it came to using the cloud, OneNote 2013 fixed all that. Now I have all the information from clients I'm working with at the office, seamlessly accessible on my phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars OneNote is an essential organizing tool July 17, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Although there are open source and online alternatives, I have not found anything that works as well and is as convenient as OneNote. Immediate search beats waiting for a web response from a wiki and the like, and its WYSIWYG formatting is much handier. Among other things, I use it to implement David Allen's "Getting Things Done" system, machine configuration information, track projects and processes, and keep a logbook.

Disclaimer: I used to work in Microsoft Office (Word), but never on OneNote, and we were not required to use it.
