4.0 out of 5 stars Good amateur program
Picture It Publishing has been a great tool to develop cards, flyers, posters and general photo editing. It is easy to use and has an adequate amount of clips and effects to keep a novice happy (it is a lot easier than Photoshop when it comes to home publishing). I would recommend it, it has a few kinks but nothing unsurmountably wrong, and I've been pleased with the...

I was attracted to this software by all the great features so I purchased it. Then I found out some of the limitations.
* You cannot print hi-res projects. By default, MS converts all pictures to the lowest res in the project. (ie when you use a background) No cure for it MS just says live with it!
* Compatability with printers. Must download multiple patches
* Software crashes. There is really no feeling like working an hour on a project only to have the software crash and kill your saved copies! I easily spend 30-40% of my time troubleshooting!
It does have some nice features if you can get through all the other stuff though. I'm switching over to another software.

1.0 out of 5 stars File Corruptions are Rampant, April 14, 2003

I wish I'd read these reviews before I bought the software. It's not very user-friendly, to begin with, but my biggest complaint is that files keep getting corrupted. I created a 4-page newsletter for my club and when I tried to edit the document later, I got an error message and the program ditched. Apparently, the file was corrupted. This happened on several occasions, and I can't even get my document done. I'm going to have to buy something else to finish it. I hate this program.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expect Error & Low Memory Messages Constantly, November 23, 2002

This review is from: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2002 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I do not highly recommend this software. It was easy to install, but that's about the only good thing about it. Ever since I have installed this software, I get error messages EVERY single time I go into it to use it. If you download 5 pictures and want to crop, etc. in PICTURE IT!, the program can barely hold all the photos at once without running out of memory. And forget about attempting to crop all photos in succession. The program will ALWAYS shut down on you and you will end up re-booting your computer a million times before you are done. Also, most of the graphics for this software are not downloaded with the initial program, so everytime you want to do a project with one of the PICTURE IT! images, you have to insert one of the CD roms just to get the picture. A hassle all around. I'm shopping around for better picture software right now........

3.0 out of 5 stars Great...If you have Patience, March 1, 2005
This review is from: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2002 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
This program is really great for novice photo editors...but only if you have LOTS and LOTS of patience! The program quits on me a lot and tends to slow down right as I'm getting on a roll.

I used this program to fix a lot of my cousin's courthouse wedding pictures that were plagued by bad lighting, no smiles, and plenty of blinking. However, it took days because I kept having to shutdown and walk away because I got very frustrated by the program closing. I learned quickly to save whenever I was satisfied with a tiny change, just in case.

Good program to use if you're starting out and it's all you have. However, I'm going to be moving on to an Adobe program I think.

3.0 out of 5 stars Troublesome But Handy, March 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2002 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
My platinum edition is a trifle tarnished from all times it has stalled and I have had to restart or reload the application when I was working on a large project. I scan my pictures into Adobe Photoshop first, cropping--touching up or whatever, and then do a "save as" in jpeg. (PIP won't read PSD files.) Then when I get ready to do a collage of photos, I can open them in PIP. I have learned to turn off or close all programs when starting PIP except for Explorer and Systray and it does seem to help. However, PIP sometimes still refuses to budge and I have to resort to a System Restore to get back to a working application again. There are a lot of little neat bells and whistles such as "stamping" plus some quick fix operations to touch up photos but if you are a serious photo person, use Adobe for photo grooming and Word Perfect for projects. They can't be beat.

can't use on windows 7 beware! if you have xp go for it. Great for animations, and gif files, editing and more. I tell people that if you don't have photoshop or the time to learn this is a great starter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Cards in July, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2002 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
The program has a lot of ideas and graphics to choose from. However, if you intend to send out Christmas Cards, start in early July because there are so so many kinks. You lose access to projects that you created. It shuts down in the middle of creation. It slows your entire computer system down. Picture allows me to create the things I like, but it has been a real hassle. I suggest trying something else -- not Printmaster 16 either.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, why did I even bother?, February 5, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2002 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Microsoft Picture It! 2002 is a program I'm ashamed to own. Why MS developed this software so poorly is beyond me. The installation was quick and easy, but once using the software you'll see why many are turned away. There are A LOT of bugs and errors throught the program. It keeps freezing up. The selection of card designs are ridiculous. I do not recommend anyone to purchase this product. If Microsoft wants to develop good photo editing software then they should learn some lessons from Adobe and Ulead.
