4.0 out of 5 stars pretty ok
I think it is better to by the Streets & Trips 2005 because you get a gps device and when you install the software you get pocket streets too so thats more worth it. I think the product is pretty good due to the fact that i use it on my smart phone, its like a map in the palm of my hand. Now my smartphone is my phone, mp3 player, digital camera, oraganizer, hand held...

3.0 out of 5 stars May Be Better Off With FULL Version of Streets and Trips
Overall, an okay product. Many people complain their street isn't shown or recent construction isn't shown, but it takes about 3 years for new mapping data to make it all the way from satellite imagery, to purchasable data for companies like Microsoft to obtain, and then into their finalized product. So, if that new road, neighborhood, etc. has been there less than 3...

Overall, an okay product. Many people complain their street isn't shown or recent construction isn't shown, but it takes about 3 years for new mapping data to make it all the way from satellite imagery, to purchasable data for companies like Microsoft to obtain, and then into their finalized product. So, if that new road, neighborhood, etc. has been there less than 3 years, then you really cannot expect it to be in Pocket Streets.

If you purchase the full desktop version of Microsoft Streets and Trips then you're given the option to install the Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005 during installation of the full version. So, unless you ONLY want Pocket Streets, you're better off buying the full desktop version and installing it on your Pocket PC that way. Then you'll have a PC and a Pocket PC version of it and also have the ability to export maps from the full version to your Pocket version.

If you don't live in a major metropolitan area then the map of where you live will not be on the CD-ROM. You'll have to use the full desktop version of Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 and export the map(s) you need.

The only change I would make to how the software works (other than the adding additional maps for those of us who don't live in major cities) is voice prompts. What's the point of having a PDA with GPS and Pocket Streets if I can't have it prompt me when to make a turn.

There is no search or travel direction capability. You have to download every states and need to know what "county" the address you are looking for(like in CA, you have LA, west, east or what?). A rip off by Microsoft for $29 dollars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but...., October 12, 2004

The software doesn't offer voice navigation, which makes it impossible (or very dangerous) to use alone while driving. Also, not as intuitive as Mapopolis and Tom Tom, especially when using on a pocket pc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible!, September 11, 2005

Doesn't tell you how to get anywhere when used with a GPS...simply shows you where you are. Nothing more than a glorified paper map. A complete embarassment!

I had thought that Microsoft might have been the creme of the crop, but it seems that it's just that: a myth. This software feels very empty, counterintuitive, and hard to use. The "points of interest" lack plenty of places that I needed to find during my travels. The address search is pitiful, and I just could not think of a good reason of why I bought this. I'm guessing that getting a high class compilation of maps and GPS is better than just a maps. Please save yourself some money, and invest it in something like a TomTom GPS + maps.

This product is nothing like the desktop version of the software. So limited in functions, you might as well have a paper map.

Also the good thing about streets & trips is that you can save any map to your smartphone from your pc using the software, you are not just limited to the major metro cities on microsoft's dowload site. just make sure you have a large storage card and you can pretty much save a whole state map, just save a new state map whenever you are going to go out of state. i like it because i dont have to subscribe to a data plan or internet service with my phone provider to use the maps. I you do then this is not that good, might as well do mapquest or something but if you don't pay extra for a data plan, this software is perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awful!, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005 Win CE English NA & Euro Only CD (CD-ROM)
This is simply awful! I would expect this type of performance from some no-name brand software purchased at a flea market - not from Microsoft! I think they must of contracted this off to some really low bidder. I had more satisfaction tossing the software into the trash than trying to auction it off on some internet site. I think I'll go with the TomTom Navigator software instead.

If you can get this SW super cheap, its A lowcost way to get an offline GPS map program for your windows mobile 6 phone. The program is indeed very old school, but it is pretty much all there is for old WINMO.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't view the maps, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005 Win CE English NA & Euro Only CD (CD-ROM)
I originally purchased Streets and Trips 2008, hoping for pocket pc availability, but there was none. So I purchased Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005, thinking I could use it as a base from which to download newer maps. However, on downloading to my Dell Axim 30, a message appeared that because the software was created for an older version of Windows Mobile it may not display correctly. Understatement! I can't view any maps, which makes this product of no value for my purposes. I was not aware of a Windows version requirement from the product info provided!
