2.0 out of 5 stars Not the book to start with, July 29, 2010

This review is from: Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 for Law Professionals Unveiling the Rules and Secrets of Legal Word Processing (Paperback)
I'm an attorney who has been doing my own wordprocessing for two decades using WordPerfect. I am by no means computer savvy, but I could prepare all the documents I needed to carry on a legal practice. Unfortunately, some of my clients have started to ask that I send them documents in Word. I tried to teach myself Word from Word 2007, but I had problems, particularly in preparing pleadings. This book sounded like exactly what i needed. No such luck.
It very quickly gets complicated and I was soon lost. In addition, I would have thought that a book specifically for legal wordprocessing would have discussed pleadings specifically. Nope. There are not enough illustrations accompanying the text and the index is sorely lacking. An example of the problem i'm having is that sometimes a few lines of text will act as a block and if I try to delete something from the beginning or end, the entire "block" will be deleted. Nothing like this happened in WordPerfect and I have no idea why it's happening here. If this book contains an explanation for what's going on, it is well hidden. Perhaps if one has been working in Word for a long time, this book would have helped. All i know is that it was no help for me. So now I'm looking for the right book to help me figure out how to prepare the documents I could easily prepare in WordPerfect in Word 2007/2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Proper Document Production for any Industry, February 16, 2010
This review is from: Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 for Law Professionals Unveiling the Rules and Secrets of Legal Word Processing (Paperback)
The reason I love this book is because it teaches you to look at a document and KNOW which feature in Microsoft Word you should use to format. If you're a word processing specialist or want to be, you know that 'legal word processing' is nothing more than proper word processing. The direction this book takes is based on how word processing is approached in international law firms. I use it when I forget a particular series of steps for formatting, or keyboard shortcut reminders. Whether you're working on a pleading, agreement, etc., formatting is not about the document type. Its about the paragraphs, the pages and the sections. If you're looking to learn how the big firms do it, this is the book for you. If you're looking for something different, go and purchase a Microsoft Step-by Step book. This company also teaches the course based on the book, which I took online after being out of the industry for a while and needed a refresher. FABULOUS. Great trainers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Useful, July 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 for Law Professionals Unveiling the Rules and Secrets of Legal Word Processing (Paperback)
This book is extraordinarily fundemental. It covers the very basics of MS Word and styles. Nothing in the book is specific to the needs of law firms. For example, drafting pleadings is a big bit of work for many firms. There is no a word about how to develop a pleading template.

The title is misleading, it is not a book for lawyers. It is does have good information for someone who has never used Word. Even for this use, it is a bare bones introduction. I do not recommend this book.
