Great Overview of New Functionality,

This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 New Features (Paperback)
This book came out when SQL Server 2005 was still in Beta. Even though the product has already shipped, I would still recommend this book to anyone wanting a broad overview of the product suite. It covers what's new in the development and administration tools, T-SQL enhancements, and overviews of Notification Services, SQL Server Service Broker, XML Integration, Reporting Services, Integration Services, and Analysis Services. Even though it's a high-level perspective there are enough code snippets and technical details to keep it interesting. The author is Senior Technical Editor of SQL Server Magazine, and the book is excellently written.

While I acknowledge that I am writing this review long after the initial release of this book, I expected more from it when I made the purchase.
I've just started chapter 4, Programmability Features. The code is out of date and many of the features discussed have been changed in Visual Studio 2005. The book is still useful for a brief introduction of new features. If you want to implement any of the features be sure to get a book that is based on the actual released versions of SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005.

I don't think you should read this book if you wanting an overview of the new features in SQL Server 2005. Much of the content is out of date because the product changed while the book was being printed.
If you interested in a book with accurate feature explanations, I'd try SQL Server 2005 Distilled. It's very accurate and not full of filler content- like entire XML schemas:>

This is a very well-written book. Perfect for learning new features of sql 2005. Clear and thorough presentation. Excellent job on Chapter 4(Programability features). Also thin-ness and portability, it won't break your wrist :)
