The book is well laid out, but unfortunately tries to do too much. Summary of my feedback:

- Most of the content is focused on SQL 2005 with 2008 added like what feels like an afterthought.
- Content layout should reflect published 70-450 learning objectives of which there are 6
- Exam contains several questions on software NUMA that is not addressed at all
- Exam contains questions on performance management of threads like lazywriter and checkpoint which are not in the book
- Hardware sizing is a large part of the exam and is not covered well

Unfortunately there is no good alternative as there is no MS Press book available like there is for 70-432. My suggestion would be to look closely at the exam objectives for 70-450 from the Microsoft certification site, determine the delta between this book and what is being examined, and use Technet/MSDN to address the gaps in your studies.

This book is good, but it is meant for college/instructor led learning. The answers to the knowledge test are available for instructors only. Security (certificates, roles, groups etc) and disaster recovery are covered very well in this book and I did not need to reference other sources. I had to use MSDN or other resources for certain topics like configuring Soft-NUMA, AWE, Maximum Degree of Parallelism, MAXDOP etc.
