Trip planner.,

This review is from: Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 [DVD] [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
I use my Microsoft Streets and Trips software to plan my route, intermediate stops, and destination for any travel via automobile or truck. I am especially pleased with the ability to see and print a detailed guide for locating street addresses for those destinations with which I may be unfamiliar. This is especially helpful for delivery of items to a customer whose business may be on a relatively remote street in areas that are difficult to find.
I have tried a few other software systems that claim to do what Streets and Trips does, and I found none of those sustems could equal or even compete with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007.

This is the second generation of this software I have owned. It is a great navagation tool, better than most online sites and can be used in the car.
I marvel at how up to date the roads shown are because in the Lexington, Kentucky area we have had a lot of new growth, with new streets and roads. The software contains a lot of good eating and lodging places already placed on the map, so you don't have to do a separate search to find a place to eat or spend the night. Major points of interest are also on the map.

Best Software Money Spent Each Year,

For the price of MS Streets and Trips and the number of times I use this product per year, this is the one of the best software values I know. Great for planning trips, driving times and optimizing routes even for around town driving. The valuable uses of this product are too numerable to mention -- finding restaurants, finding Starbucks, figuring driving times to a destination plus side trips, the list goes on. If you are keen on optimizing your driving time and/or maximizing your travel adventure then this is a valueable tool.

The program is great. Sometimes the GPS is slightly off though. I'll be travelling on a major highway and all of the sudden it will tell me that I'm off route for no reason. Not really a big deal, just annoying. Other than that I recommend it as a cheaper version of a GPS sysytem if you own a laptop.

I decided not to read the instructions, shame on me. That got me off to a slow start. But in reality, it's user friendly and works really well for me. I used an excel spreadsheet to import my customer list and it has made me so much more effecient. I would definitely reccommend it.

I did not buy this for the navigation but rather to plot a couple hundred places of interest. It can import addresses just fine from Excel, but I also needed it to display name, address and phone number for each place by default. I haven't found how to do that, if it will do that at all. But, I select each location, choose the information to display then I have what I want.

I've bought upgrades for MS Streets & Trips faithfully. No longer. It is losing functionality instead of getting better. For example, in the 2004 release you could actually read the speed, altitude, information. In the 2007 version, you have to read print this size while trying to drive down the road. And the GPS panel takes up a huge part of the screen. 2004 was definitely superior. Now, why would a programmer do this? One would think they'd want to make it easier to use, not less.
I use my S&T to travel remote roads to fishing places. It is really built bass ackwards for this. You can see rivers and lakes on the maps when they are at highway map scale (12 miles to the inch). But as you get closer, and want to zoom in, the rivers and lakes disappear. Makes one wonder where they hired their cartographers? Or perhaps that is the problem; do they have any on staff? The same errors perpetrate from upgrade to upgrade. I have found places on the highways of Canada and Alaska where the road is 4 to 6 miles away from where S&T shows it. And it never gets fixed. The only reason I still use S&T is because it does include Canada and Mexico -- after a fashion. It's competitors don't. But don't expect to be able to search for places in Canada or Mexico. Most of them are not in their database. For example, the Woodall's campgrounds in Canada are almost all unlisted, despite Microsoft's claim that all are listed. Too bad Microsoft is content with this product. It is okay for freeway travelers, and for most city streets. But it is sorely lacking for the rest of our vast country.

Microsoft Streets and Trips is a program that we have used for a few years and are happy with it for the most part. Some locations we attempted to locate on our 2004 version did not track to the proper destination even though the sites were virtually local ones.
However, the overall trip plan and mileage functions are what we desire and we are very happy with this part of the software.

The only improvement I would like to see is more local landmarks on the maps and altitudes appearing on the maps too.

This map and trip maker is about the same as their previous versions except to my dislike, it no longer supports Windows 98, which happens to be the newest OP that my old lap top can use. It also still lists some restaurants that have been closed for two years. The street maps it produces are accurate, except for a few minor glitches.
