Customer Reviews

The actual Microsoft product in original packagaing.

There seems to be a design flaw that causes the plastic protection for the cord to break apart and expose the internal wiring.

It also has one USB port on the brick, something that I didn't even notice because it bl so well.

I have two of these. One that came with the tablet, and one purchased on amazon. One of them is fraying at the magnetized end and the other one has stopped working (the light blinks) after 40 days of use. This otherwise well designed item has some serious flaws that many of us are apparently experiencing. I don't know if too many others are having these go bad, but the fraying problem (picture) seems common.

I recommend the surface pro 3 dock and its 48 watt power supply for home and office use instead.

This is a great (and only) charger for Surface Pro 3 users.

Pros:
-Long length
-Small power cube that has a usb slot to charge other devices. I appreciate this design.
-Uses magnets to connect to the Surface. More chargers should do this. It feels modern and cool while still providing efficient charging.
-Two prong connector works in more power outlets.
-The power connector can be inserted in two directions, depending on what you're doing.

Con:
-PRICE. Honestly way to expensive for a charger. Don't lose the one that comes with your tablet. I honestly would give this two stars just for the price.

Don't lose your initial charger.. but this is a great charger (that is your only choice) for the Surface Pro 3.

The cord from the wall charger to the box is way too short, especially when u need it to sit on a
Table. Also the price is unjustified. Why make the customer, who already paid a large sum of
Money for your product, feel getting ripped off on a cord.

Works, but wish Microsoft would take a lesson from Apple. My MacBook Pro cord is not as frustrating to use as this one. AND, be advised: This OEM charger is available from the Microsoft store itself for $79.00 and FREE SHIPPING! I just ordered one for a spare. So, why is this $20 more? I don't get it.

The functionality and design of this cord is great. It's small, long enough, and magnetized.

Fatally, it's durability is terrible and the replacement price is unjustified. After only one month my original cord began to tear, exposing the wires around the magnetized end. Now it charges intermittently and is a fire hazard so I have to buy a new one since it's just barely too late to return it.

I recommend you get one of those product replacement warranties that places like best buy and target offer because this cord will not last.

I actually envy those reviewers who state that this power cord frays easily and needs to be very frequently replaced. As I write this I have been on hold with Best Buy for over 37 minutes waiting to tell someone -- anyone who understands English -- that the SECOND power cord for the Surface Pro 3 that I purchased from them is as defective as the original cord. Specifically, it is a two-part cord and where the male end of one part meets the female end of the second part, they don't fit.

I don't know if this is a systemic problem or maybe just a problem with the Surface Pro 3s sold by Best Buy, but I am ready to throw in the towel and return the tablet, defective cords, and all the accessories I bought and just go with some other brand of tablet. Oh, yeah, and those geniuses at far-from-Best Buy sent me not only a defective replacement cord but a whole new tablet, too. What a lack of problem-solving skills on their part.

As for the cord sold by Amazon -- buyer beware.

Fantastic charger, obviously this is the charger that comes with the Surface pro 3 so you're stuck with it. The magnetic port similar to those found on macs is a nice touch and the power prick is small enough that it all fits in a briefcase with ease. It also has one USB port on the brick, something that I didn't even notice because it bl so well.

The main thing to note is that the cord is not very long, this thing won't reach across the room. But as a second charger to keep at the office it works perfectly. The price is also much better here on Amazon, Microsoft sells them on their website for $79.99 as of right now.

My power supply came with my SP3. As other reviewers have commented, after about 2 months of regular use, the wire at the bottom of the magnetized adaptor becomes exposed, eventually causing the charger to fail. Mine failed spectacularly with a short, almost causing an electrical fire. Fortunately my SP3 was OK.

Based on the number of other negative review, it appears this is a design defect, not a just a few faulty units. Please be careful with yours and minimize any twisting or movement around the magnetic adaptor.
