This review is from: Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 Professional Upgrade [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I've finally upgraded to VFP 9 and it's just tough that Microsoft has announced this will be the final version... just really tough! Installation is quick along with product updates from Microsoft.

The xBase era is not over,

VFP is a great tool and I don't think developers will stop using it just because Microsoft announced the last version. VFP applications will work at least another 10 years for sure and the VFP community will support developers around the World much longer.
Why do I say that? It is simple: Many applications written in old FoxPro 2.x are stil working now and if I remember it well this product was produced in 1993... The power of Visual FoxPro is still not fully utilized, VFP works under Vista and Windows 7 and to create desktop application requires much less effort than to do same work in .NET.

Best Desktop Database Ever,

This review is from: Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 Professional Upgrade [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I've used xbase products going all the way back to dBASE II. VFP 9.0 is an outstanding desktop database, and also plays well with server database systems such as SQL Server, as well as Web applications.
I've used it for very large databases. Hundreds of thousands and even millions of records are no problem. The development environment is excellent. Object oriented development takes some learning, but the effort is rewarded by greatly improved ongoing application maintenance. It's too bad that the VFP and the xbase era is now over. I still use VFP for personal applications but no longer for paying clients.

Best editor for ActiveVFP web applications,

Although you can use just NotePad for ActiveVFP web apps along with any good WYSIWIG HTML editor, Visual Foxpro remains the best way to edit and create foxpro source code and applications for AVFP until something better comes along (with Intellisense).
