More About the Author

Hi guys, I'm Alessandro Del Sole from Italy. I'm a Microsoft MVP for Visual Basic since 2008, I'm the community leader for the Italian "Visual Basic Tips & Tricks" user group which is the family for more than 44500 VB developers. Also, I co-founded the Italian "WPF Tips & Tricks" and "LightSwitch Tips & Tricks" UGs. Programming is absolutely my main passion and is fun. I love VB and, more generally, the .NET Framework. WPF is the technology I'm most involved in and LightSwitch is the environment that I also use a lot. I enjoy writing technical articles, recording webcasts and instructional videos and writing some free dev tools. I'm a frequent contributor on the Visual Basic Developer Center on MSDN and recently we published an article series on programming Windows 7 with WPF 4 and VB 2010. I also regularly speak at technical events in Italy on Microsoft technologies.

I have been voted Visual Basic MVP Of The Year for 2009, 2010, 2011.

I love the sea and playing my electric guitar. If you like Queen's music, then we are friends :-)

A previous review tempted me to buy this book, but I found it at the local library first. After trying to read the hard copy version, the screen print images are impossible to see...faint, way too small (even with a magnifying glass). The Kindle eReader version is much better and clearer, especially for seeing the detail. I really like this book but find the digital version much better. Recommend that the publisher REDO the faint images for the screenshots.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book and Screenshot are ok April 13, 2012
By Charles
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
From reading the review of this book that noted the poor screenshots, I almost didn't buy it.

Now that I have, I would like to say that the book and the examples are both excellent. I'm a 60 year old programmer with poor eyesight and I had no problem viewing the examples printed in the book.

This author always does an excellent job of presenting the material and no one should hold back from buying the book because of someones bogus review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book that I reccomend to everyone May 4, 2012
By Michael
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Whenever someone asks me what book they should get to learn LightSwitch I recommend this one. This is a hefty book who's greatest asset is that it is complete. It covers all the the big subjects that you would expect, but, also the small ones such as specifying a certificate (and what it means) when publishing your application. It saves you a lot of time to just grab the book and find what you are looking for in the index than it does to search the Internet. I recommend buying the physical book. This is one situation where the physical book makes it more convenient to get the information you need.

The book can also be read cover to cover, but there are 763 pages of primary content so I treat it as a reference book. I also found the screen shots to be clear and easy to read.

The only thing that I did not prefer is that the code is in VB and I code in C#. However, there is so little code (4-5 lines every 10 pages or so), that it really is not an issue.
