Don't read it on a beach....,

...especially not a windy one. This book literally starts *decomposing* the moment you first open it. After about 30 pages I ended up with a lap full of loose pages, some of them not even paginated. Took me a good hour to put the damn thing back together. The press itself looks like it was done on a cheap inkjet printer, and sometimes it is hard to tell "e" from "o", "g" from "j" etc... As for the content - this book reads like one of those UFO/government/name-your conspiracy pamphlets. There is a lot of biterness, resentment and outright rage aimed towards Microsoft, which apparently wronged the author in some way. These uncontrolled emotions distort the whole idea the author is trying to present: that there are other alternatives to Microsoft products. The editing is nonexistent - some paragraphs and whole chapters feel like they were written in one rage-fueled take, with occasional trips to the basement to punch holes in the walls with bare fists. This person shouldn't be writing books.

i hate microsoft alot but this borders on ranting and raving. this guy should get a vallium prescription. the book is hard to follow and seems to have been written out of anger alone. dont waste your time and money, use it trying other opperating systems instead. oh and the binding is realy bad, all the pages fell out that realy irritated me.

The author should focus more on what makes Linux a good OS rather than his rantings about Microsoft. This book was a waste of time. I took it back for a refund.

This guy is an embarrassmant to the publisher. His brainless rantings may be the result of rage fueled by something in his personal life perhaps?I'm not a great fan of Microsofts business ethic, but the author is narrow minded, unable to reason or dicuss. Like most folk who rant over anything, the text isn't worth reading. I binned the book.

An exercise in unedited free speech but provoking nonetheles,

This book reads like the mad rantings of a very PO-ed former Microsoft employee. My feelings about the company have only become more solidified since the time I read this book nearly 4 years ago - a nasty monopolist that gives new meaning to the word "compete." But don't be fooled by either the company or the dope who started crying wolf after he likely profited and now has no other Microsoft to latch onto. Read this book only if you appreciate the rights of both sides to air their story and then you can make up your mind.

The nitty-gritty of the Windows Monopoly,

This review is from: 1 Microsoft Way: A Cookbook To Breaking Bill Gates Windows Monopoly Without Breaking Windows (with Linux CD Operating System) (Mass Market Paperback)
The author is a voice in the wilderness regarding the attempts by Microsoft to supress all negative evaluations of their products. He has an excellent knowledge of the legal and political power of the big monopoly. He shows how hard it is to be heard as an ex-employee and even harder if you are a minority. The book differentiates clearly the difference between windows and true operating systems such as Linux and Dr.dos. He explains some of the reasons why Windows has so many bugs and why Linus is much more stable. The book is well written but the publisher really let him down. There are pooly printed pages, misspelling, and little omissions that should have been caught by the editor and publisher. Also, the book is not well bound. In spite of these things, it is well worth reading. I know of nothing else that gives such a piercing look at the problem of trying to compete with Microsoft and the importance of doing so.
