Amazon Verified Purchase
A great improvement over Windows SBS 2008. 2011 gives you additional features in the Web portal remote console in addition to speed. Very stable, we use for several of our clients. If you do migrate from Windows 2003, make sure it does not have corruptions in the system otherwise be prepared to do a clean install and migrate the exchange mailboxes and data files only.

I install the trial version of this and ran into a few awkward things that seem
out of place.
1) You have to have an external network connection of some sort or the entire screen will lock
on the console screen when you login.
This makes little sense to me as you figure it would assume the network connection was not working
and inform you of the problem. Instead it locks up on the SBS console screen and several checks
that the console screen does spin forever and never complete their checks.
My workound around was to connect a broadband router. and then it got past the console screen.
You don't need a Internet connection at this point, just some sort of external router to make
the OS think it's connected to a network.
2) Why I noticed the first problem in the first place. I wanted to set it up on a wireless device
to connection to the network. This failed repeatedly even after connecting the broadband router.
The device manager said my device worked fine but I could not enable it no matter what I tried.
kept getting an error message that "wlanapi.dll" was missing.
Apparently wireless LAN networking is not installed by default, go figure.
You must add the feature under Windows for this to work.
3) the Sharepoint version is call Sharepoint Foundation Services. This is a limited version of
Sharepoint and some things may not work with it.
Already ran into one feature from Microsoft for PowerPivot which does not work on this type
server installation. I would expect full functionality on a SBS server, but limited users
licenses like most of SBS is setup to do.
I am planning more testing and will update this review as I plan to implement sharepoint/Office/SQL Server
integration if possible.

So, the pitch Microsoft for SBS2011 is streamlined, limited need for IT support. Yea, right! I installed and serviced my own SBS2003 and it was time for an upgrade, or I thought upgrade. This SBS2011 has been nothing but a nightmare since initial install. I'm about to trash the whole project and look real hard at converting everything in my business to MAC to include home. It was recommended to use Windows 7 for the work stations because of the added security. Surprise, half of my still working hardware doesn't have W7 support or is extremely limited with half baked drivers.
Don't believe for one second the Microsoft programming robots are giving you a product that requires limited IT support. Quite the opposite. I feel like I fell into their Vista bull even though I never used a Vista product, that was a complete failure and drain on the consumer's wallet from day one.
When O do end up dumping SBS2011 I just might send the disks to Bill Gates and let HIM try to install it. How about that Bill?
