3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Irvin A. Turberville on September 19, 2010
Format: Paperback
I have been reading this book off and on for the last few months. I really like it as a textbook as it isn't too dry as some books are. It's actually a very interesting read. Since it is a textbook it does suffer 2 drawbacks and that is the sticker price and that you don't have the answers to the questions in the back of the book as a lot of study books do. The answers not being provided is a good thing for a textbook as it forces the students to actually do more research on what they are studying. Since I have been using this book in conjunction with several other books in my studies in order to take the MCITP:EA (70-647) exam I have actually learned more from this book than from the others as I've been forced to actually do AND check the answers by going back and reviewing the material again.
The book includes an evaluation copy of Server 2008 and a second CD which contains Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser, Windows Server Update Services, and Report Viewer which are avilable for download from Microsoft but it's more convenient to have them on disk if in a classroom environment or if you have slow internet as I do. It also has a powerpoint presentation to go along with it but I hate to say that I didn't get around to viewing it.
The book overall met and exceeded my expectations and covered the objectives, or as Microsoft calls them skils measured, very well.

Do I seriously have to sit in front of my computer to read this book?? I am trying to figure out how to return this immediately. Why even call it Kindle version? Never had this kind of trouble with a Kindle book and I have purchased over 60.

I you want to truly learn the concepts and real world practical application to be able to tackle this exam, this is the book you should use. There are practical examples and the labs reinforce the text in such a manner that will leave you with no other option but to fully understand the technical aspects and practical application. Well worth the time involved to complete!!!
