Upon consideration, worth the extra money,

This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Technologies Training (Training Kit) (Paperback)
At first I was disappointed when I discovered that the multimedia component of the training kit consisted mostly of a series of grainy slides with voice-overs. However, as I progressed through the course I was impressed by the quantity and quality of the subject matter covered. It takes several days to go through all the material properly. There are in fact some interactive sessions that simulate the Windows NT environment and allow you the opportunity to practise specific tasks.A nice feature is the ability to automatically advance the screens. I feel I was able to understand the subject more thoroughly by having it presented in two quite different ways. In short, at the end of the training, I thought the multimedia version of this training course was well worth the extra money.

Most of what you will need,

The labs included through out the book are very useful when trying to understand the lingo of the book itself. I purchased the book and found that the book as a whole is a very good book especially the labs. The written material leaves a little to be desired though. I took and passed the enterprise examine and found a couple questions that were not covered in the text. The book itself is a fast read and an easy read if you are familiar with all the protocals...if not your in for a long read. But regardless of the book be sure to install the nt 4 trial disk that comes with the book. That's what will take you over the top. Good Luck!

Not at the same level as usual from MS Press,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Server Enterprise Training (Microsoft Official Curriculum) (Paperback)
Fair book, however falls short of the usual high standards by Microsoft Press. This book has been written by an outside company on behalf of MS Press. Too many words and repetitive writing and a large amount of errors is the downfall of this book. Check out http://mspress.microsoft.com/support and run a search based on the book title. This will reveal some of the shortcomings of this edition.

An adaquate but not outstanding preparation book. The editors could have put into more efforts. As some other MS MOC I have read, it's not well-organized. A same topic (domain sync, browser, WINS, trust, etc.) is usually discussed two or more times in different chapters, with varied depth and sporadic inconsistencies. A bit misleading is that network monitoring takes up too many pages (1/6) compared with its significance in the exam (1/25 adaptive?). If you want an MS refrence on NT Server, you'd be better off buying the RK. In fact, this book draws heavily on the RK. Of course, for exam preparation, you don't want to be bogged down in the wealth of info in the RK, either.

Good for reference, but not for exam preperation,

This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Server Enterprise Training (Microsoft Official Curriculum) (Paperback)
This book covers a lot of information on network monitoring, troubleshooting and network optimization. It also covers a good design approach such as Domain structure and trust relationship. I found this book is the best reference for anybody who want to master NT server optimization and design. But, It is not a very good for exam preperation. I read the book cover to cover, I pass the exam. But I recommend use other material for exam.

This kit from MS is pretty loaded with theory and core info - trying to read it quickly in a cram situation could be detremental to ones health. The test was a pretty nasty 90 minutes, it has been changed back to 50 or 55 questions - it is no longer adaptive. I was amazed at the sheer number of seemingly trick questions I ran into on the actual exam. Again, like most of the exams, I used Transcenders in conjunction with book material - The multimedia CD-ROM is pretty thin on content with this kit, but it did lock in "local" and "global" group theory successfully. For additional sample questions to cross reference with this kit try ISBN 0-7356-0539-4, MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-068 Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise by Microsoft Press. This was the hardest of the tests so far - the others taking me about 25 minutes to complete - this one took about 90 minutes.

Microsoft Books review,
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Server Enterprise Training (Academic Learning Series) (Paperback)
I am attending an ATEC MCSE course. we use only the books published from Microsoft and I have found most all of their books good for students begining in the MCSE series. Though I fault them for not having enough simulations on the CD`s and Power Point Visuals.....otherwise they are pretty good reading...but generally you will need outside resources to be able to pass the exams.... Good Luck.God Bless. Trinitygroup7@earthlink.net
