4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow!!!
This book is an easy guide to follow. I am currently working through it at the moment. The lessons are not too complex and with a little basic knowledge the matter is easily understood. I like the way it is split up into short lessons. This makes studying during lunch-breaks and evenings more possible. Also having a copy of NT supplied with it makes life a lot easier...

3.0 out of 5 stars ONLY ABOUT HALF OF KNOWLEDGE FOR EITHER NT4.0 TEST
Decent prep for the two NT Tests, But Not Great.

Good book to study to set a pace for preparing for the two MCSE certifications it partially covers. If you work in NT networks already, skip this book and get an Exam Cram instead. But follow up with the second step: Windows NT Technical Support. If you're new to MCSE/MCP process and don't work on an NT network, then...

3.0 out of 5 stars ONLY ABOUT HALF OF KNOWLEDGE FOR EITHER NT4.0 TEST, March 22, 1999

This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
Decent prep for the two NT Tests, But Not Great.

Good book to study to set a pace for preparing for the two MCSE certifications it partially covers. If you work in NT networks already, skip this book and get an Exam Cram instead. But follow up with the second step: Windows NT Technical Support. If you're new to MCSE/MCP process and don't work on an NT network, then this is more along your line for quick understanding of account and printer management/creation and general admin tasks.

After several self-tests, I realized I was not ready to sit for the exam after finishing this book. I dug a little deeper into the subject requirements for the NT Server 4.0 exam [described in the book in small type] and discovered this book doesn't completely cover what is required for the exam!!! To pass the exams you need to read and study 'Windows NT Technical Support Training' as well.

The first reviewer in this list said that the book did not cover "half the material required for the exam". If he had bothered to read the documentation it actually says that to pass the exams you need to read 'Windows NT Tecnical Support Training' as well. Together, the two books apparrently cover all the material required. I look forward to working through that book next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to keep you from becoming a paper MCSE., October 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
If you want a great training guide for NT administration, then this it. The book contains hands-on exercises for administering an NT network in a single domain. Many of the reviews here will tell you that it is not good for preparing for the exam, that's true. But it will give you great hands on experience that will help you on an NT exam.

Too many people out there out just concerned about passing the exam without really knowing how to perform hands on tasks. If you want to really know NT administration then this guide is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disheartening....., February 14, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
This book did not do what I had hoped it could coming from the makers of the operating system it covers. First, the book itself did a poor job in covering the many aspects of Windows NT 4. It barely covered the most basic aspects and left out a great deal of NT. The CD-ROM included had some decent labs for beginners but there were not enough of them. If you are looking for a book to purchase for preparation of a Microsoft exam for MCP or MCSE this one should be left out. Everything covered in this book can be easily found in just about any other book dealing with NT4. While it can bring a person who knows nothing of NT to knowing something, it presents hadly any new knowledge to users with even a little NT background.

5.0 out of 5 stars From an MIS manager, December 16, 1998

This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
This is Z-best hands on NT book that I have ever read. Not only is it simple to follow, but, it covers all the basics that an Administrator needs to know. The hands on work experience that this book offers is great. I definitly recommend this book for all beginning readers and readers who need to solidify their skills. This book only covers half of NT, the other half is "Microsoft Windows NT Technical Support."

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this book if you are studying for the exam!, May 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
The self-paced book for Networking Essentials allowed me to pass that exam without a problem so I thought I'd stick to the series for the NT Server exam. However, after reading 7 of the 11 chapters and fiddling with the self tests (sold separately), I realized I was no where near ready for the exam. I dug a little deeper into the subject requirements for the NT Server 4.0 exam and discovered this book doesn't even cover HALF of what is required for the exam!!! Do yourself a favor and buy Alan Carter's MSCE study guide and pass on this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book, use with the Tech Support Training Kit, April 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
This is an excellent training kit. It comes with simulations, training video's, NT Server evaluation, and has a lot of complete and accurate information as well as labs. Just be sure to use the tech support training kit in addition to prepare you for 70-067 and 70-073.

5.0 out of 5 stars Combine this book with NT Technical Support - You will PASS!, April 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
Good book that can be used as a reference later. You will need NT Technical Support book as well to pass both 70-073 and 70-067 exams. I passed both exams with flying colors using this book and NT Technical Support as my primary study tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Introduction To Windows NT Networking, July 23, 1998
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
As a relative newcomer to Windows NT networking, I really appreciated this book and CD. The kit comes with a 120-day evaluation copy of NT, and a CD with some very good videos explaining NT concepts.

This certainly isn't the one to buy if you can only buy one book to pass an exam, but it is a great introduction to NT. I recommend it highly to experienced networking personnel (like myself!) who are just delving into NT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Interactive Learning Guide to Microsoft NT 4.0 Admin., April 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Windows NT Network Administration Training: Hands-On, Self-Paced Training for Administering Version 4.0 (Microsoft Training Guides) (Paperback)
This is an excellent book. Enough hands on activities to keep your mind fresh and interested, and packed with enough information to still teach you what you need to know. Doubly excellent if you are studying for the Microsoft Certified Professional Exam on Microsoft NT 4.0. It is truly a gem among technical guides.
