I was looking for, ideally, an ergonomic keyboard with soft touch. Unfortunately after reading many of the reviews here on Amazon, it seemes to me that the two are mutually exclusive. (One of the most common complaints of ergonomic keyboards is that several keys either stick or require a harder-than-normal keypress.) I was also thinking of getting a freestyle solo keyboard, but most of them don't have the ten-key number pad, which is required for both my work and recreation. So I went in to Office Depot and checked out a bunch of the keyboards. My absolute favorite for softness of touch and shortness of keystroke was the Kensington Ci73:

Kensington Ci73 Wired Keyboard, Low Profile Design (K64397US)

Unfortunately many of the reviews I've read of this product describe total failure from within days to weeks. Even with all of the positive reviews the Kensington received, I wasn't willing to make a purchase with such a high chance of needing to be returned. Also, I prefer not to use wireless devices, as I don't want to risk signal loss (which at best is annoying, and at worst can get you killed in your favorite MMO).

The Microsoft Wired Desktop 600 was my second choice among the available keyboards. I bought one for home use last night and used it all evening with absolutely no pain in my hands or wrists at all. I came into work this morning and within an hour of using my work keyboard my wrists were hurting again, so I bought one for work too. It's extremely comfortable and I have no pain at all. It's also very quiet. The mouse click is a little louder than the normal HP or Dell mice but it's not terrible. Also the scroll-wheel is a little stiffer.

This is a nice easy to use, inexpensive wired USB keyboard. It has volume control keys, a calulatior key, but no internet keys. It is misnamed in that there is NO USB port, although it does conect to the computer via USB.

I replaced an older MS desktop keyboard and mouse with this set. The new keyboard works fine with no problems other than the fact that it is slightly smaller than the 12 year old keyboard that it replaced, and so I find myself correcting typing mistakes when I slightly touch the edge of an adjoining key next to the one I meant to press.

Both new items seem to have been designed for either a notebook or a laptop, and not a desktop computer.

The mouse does not work as intended. It doesn't fit into my hand the way my older MS PS2 mouse did, and the left and right buttons won't click correctly. I find myself clicking 3-5 times to get a response. The mouse also seems as though it was designed for a child's hand and not an adult. I have to move my hand back a couple of inches on the pad and off of the mouse, after I move the pointer, just to click the buttons.

After two days of that, I reinstalled the older MS mouse back onto my desktop.

Needed a new keyboard for work only, not gaming, and this worked out perfectly. No problem transitioning from old Dell keyboard except function keys are smaller. Nice light touch, not noisy, easy set up, just plug it in.

The keyboard is comfortable and almost ergonomic because of the slight curving it has, the keyboards are quiet enough so that you still hear the keys a bit but not enough to annoy yourself or anyone sitting next to you in a quiet room; a big plus for me is that it has the calculator shortcut right on top of the keypad. The mouse is standard with descent looks but horrible clicking sound.

(History: I bought this to replace my Dell XPS keyboard/mouse combination that was my backup as my Microsoft Wireless Desktop that was my main setup was giving up on me and I noticed how much faster response time you get from a wired mouse/keyboard.)

Despite the description please be aware that this keyboard does not have a USB port. It has a USB cable to attach to a USB port but the keyboard itself does not have a USB port so you're going to use two USB ports to connect this product.

The mouse is very basic and very lightweight.

Nevertheless, this keyboard and mouse is much better than the one I received with my computer so I'll keep it for a while until I can find a much better combination.

I really like the Microsoft Wired Desktop 600 but make sure you get the one listed on Amazon WITHOUT the mouse for $10 less Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 (Black) rather than this listing Microsoft Wired Desktop 600 (Black) WITH the mouse.

The mouse is either defective or extremely poor design. The mouse actually weighs less than the attached cord! Mouse design is supposed to be such that the mouse sits on your tabletop and the cord is attached and may or may not actually rest in places on the table top. HOWEVER, the one that came to me from Amazon in this order the cord would lay on the table top with the mouse not flat on the table and just a normal ocean breeze would knock it off the tabletop. It is hard to imagine that Microsoft would not know that the mouse needs to be heavier than the cord so maybe mine was defective. However, all the other reviews are discussing how lightweight the mouse is so I do not know.

I do really like the keyboard so I would recommend saving the $10 and purchasing Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 (Black) without the mouse and getting a good mouse such as Kensington Pro Fit Full-Size Mouse USB/PS2 (K72369US) which works very well for me.

What do I like about the keyboard?
