Thanks to this excellent book by Russell Borland I was able to pass the Certified Microsoft Word 97 Expert exam this evening. I've been using Word for years and I was able to pick up so many shortcuts I can't even begin to name them. Plus, workarounds for many of the things that have frustrated me over years were explained in simple, easy to understand exercises. I can't imagine anyone not being able to pick up at least five to ten major timesavers - even for the most expert user. In summary, it's an excellent book with practice examples to match. If you want to study for the Certified Microsoft Word 97 Expert exam, this is the book to get

Frist of all, I wouldn't have given the book any stars, but I didn't have that option. I had read the first book "Step by Step" for beginners and was really impressed, so I figured that the next book in the series would also be as good. Well, was I wrong. This book Step by Step Advanced Topics was very confusing. The Author,Russel Borland, might know Word97 very well, but he was not able to explain it. His examples are frammented and not very clear. I don't know what Amazon's return policy is, but I would like my money back! I guess I will go back to shopping at a book store,so that I can review the product before I purchase it. I hope that Amazon doesn't edit this out. This is only my personal option, but I think the book stinks!!

This book introduces the advanced topics of Microsoft Word in an easy to follow way.

I much prefer this hands on approach. The exercises were all very good. I was learning something new every day and enjoying it.

Every topic on the MOUS expert exam was covered. If you master the topics in this book you will ace your exam like I did.

I must admit, I found the Word 97 Expert exam difficult. I passed but mentally struggled through it because I underestimated the difficulty of the required tasks. Word of advice, don't neglect even simple tasks like printing because since you can't use the print icon on the exam, you've got to expect several different print options that can be on the test. This book in addition to the basic Word 97 Step By Step should help to get you through most of the necessary tasks. Like I said, don't underestimate the exam and don't be afraid to study from additional texts.

I was so overwhelmed by the different functions of Word described in the book that I have decided to order the first book of the serie to fully understand the advanced topics.

I think this book deserves totally its qualificative of Word 97 "ADVANCED TOPICS". It is a "no bull" book with only significant info. It is not that common with computer books.
