5.0 out of 5 stars My Default Software
Unlike others, Microsoft Works is the software for me. I use it for everything. Nothing offered by the more capable software has any value for the work that I do. In fact, I find WORD to be so complicated at times that it is just not useful. Every time I think I'll step up I always come back to Works. It is the best software for those who need software that is easy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money for Microsoft Office
I bought Works, because I was a freshman in college, and needed a wordprocessing program for papers, etc. It is good for people who will not share folders, and have their own printer. It's a hassel trying to save the Works document in WP or something else to print out on another printer, or even view it on another computer. It may seem like such a great deal for $44, but...

It's a hassel trying to save the Works document in WP or something else to print out on another printer, or even view it on another computer. It may seem like such a great deal for $44, but save up!! Honest! The Office Suite, Word, or Excel separate are better deals...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bloated but OKAY, December 26, 2001
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
This is a bloated program that contains hundreds of features that most people will not use. Nevertheless, after spending several hours trying to figure it out, I am generally pleased with it. I previously used Works 4.0 (a truly great program, fast, simple, easy) but was forced to upgrade to Works 6.0 due to my new operating system (Windows 2000). The word processor (Word 2000) has a nice look and contains lots of good features when you finally figure it out. My initial impression of this product was unfavorable -- too many features, too complicated -- but I have warmed up to it and feel that our good buddies at Microsoft have done their best to provide a versatile product. It's not an easy program to learn, but if you have the patience to work your way through it, you will probably like it. Bloated but OKAY.

1.0 out of 5 stars WISH I HAD STAYED ON 4.0, October 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
VERY CLUMSY TO TRY TO USE DATABASE WITH MAIL MERGE FOR A WORD PROCESSOR FILE. UNLESS YOU WANT TO WORK/CREATE WHAT THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE FOR YOU, THE WHOLE PROGRAM IS VERY LIMITING. THEIR NEW GALLERY IS JUST FONTS AND COLORS (HO HUM) WE ALREADY HAD THAT. TO MAKE IT WORSE, WHEN QUESTIONED THEIR TECH SUPPORT AGREED WITH ME AND REFERED ME TO A TOLL-FREE NUMBER FOR A REFUND AND ANOTHER NUMBER TO TRY TO GET 4.0/4.5; THOSE PEOPLE CLAIM HE WAS WRONG AND SAID IF I WANTED TO TRY TO BUY 4.0/4.5 TO CALL A WAREHOUSE (THEY GAVE ME THE NUMBER); THE WAREHOUSE HAS CLOSED.

SO MUCH FOR TECH SUPPORT; BY THE WAY THE FIRST TECH SUPPORT GUY SAID THEIR WEBSITE HAD A DOWNLOAD PATCH TO CONVERT THEIR 6.0 FILES BACK TO 4.0'S. I GOTTA FIND 4.0 TO BUY FIRST. WHILE I WAS THEIR I FOUND ANOTHER PATCH TO HELP FIX SOME OF THE DATABASE PROBLEM, IT WORKS, BUT JUST A SMALL PATCH FOR A VERY DISAPPOINTING PURCHASE. DONT' WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

ARE WE GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE THEY ARE TRYING TOO HARD. MAYBE SOME FRESH NEW IDEAS ARE NEEDED; HERE'S ONE - GET UP FROM THE DESK AND TRY LOOKING OUTSIDE, TAKE A BREATH AND RELAX. IF IT AIN'T BROKE - DON'T FIX IT.

THANKS FOR LETTING ME AIR.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incompatibility, June 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
The most disappointing thing about Microsoft Works is that it doesn't "work" well with other applications. For example, the database tool does not appear to be compatible with programs written in Visual Basic 6.0. It appears that I now need to buy Access as a stand-alone product, when I feel that Works should be as useable as Office with Access. Half-star rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars A step backwards, December 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
With Works Micosoft makes a step backwards because it does not no longer support celprotection. Imagine a spreadsheet of 10 pages with hundreds of formulas and with no celprotection.

3.0 out of 5 stars No PowerPoint or Publisher :-(, December 12, 2003

No point getting this software. Yes word, spreadsheet, database are cool but there is no presentation application. Just would cost me another arm and leg to obtain PowerPoint. If this is ok for you now, fine but what about when you want to advance your skills to learn the basic Office programs other than spreadsheets, database, calendar ...??

Don't type long letter on Microsoft works because sometimes it will error and close out and you will lose all your work. It's done this using my computer and about 5 other computer now.. Usually I will now type on note pad which has not closed out on me ever before and paste to spell check onto Microsoft works so I don't lose my work.. I'm going o look for something more reliable that is compatible with other computers....

5.0 out of 5 stars Data Base Enthusiast, March 17, 2004
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I like Works Data Base more than many other programs I use in my work.
I am constantly telling people to try it - but they prefer to flounder with Access. (That's like driving a semi-trailer when a small sedan is appropriate, in my opinion.)
I can manipulate the data base in many ways - and use if for book-keeping 3-4 large accounts.
I also use it for sorting our students and classes at a school, and for recording marks.
I find it very easy to use, and the only improvement I would like to see is an option to have more than 8 reports. (We have a school with ten classes - and I need 10 class reports!)
I think this data base should be advertised strongly and widely, in competition to others which are not so user friendly, and not so economical.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works 6.0 OK but not quite what I expected, May 10, 2002
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Works 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Works 6.0 is a decent value for the money. However, I was disappointed that documents that I previously prepared using a password with Word will not open. I had expected Works 6.0 to have a full Word program but apparently it does not. The word "password" does not even appear in the Help index.
