PROS:
Wired xbox360 controllers work well with windows7 right away and the driver for XP isn't hard to find.
No need to worry about relinking your controller when you go from xbox to xbox; just plug it in and you are good to go!
No need to charge or replace your batteries before you can play.
Most PC shooters made after the 360 have plug and play support for the 360 controller (in my experience). I've used mine for L4D, L4D2, and portal2 recently and I only needed to plug in the controller before launching the game for it to work.

CONS:
Cords are so 90s.
Since the two triggers aren't actually buttons a lot of older games can't map them as 'fire' buttons. This means that if you do any emulation or DOS gaming you will want to do research before buying this controller for them since you may not be able to use it in the way you hope.

Please note that if you want to use a 360 controller for PC gaming you CAN'T just use a 360 wireless controller and plug in a charge kit USB to your computer. The charge cord only provides power across USB; it doesn't communicate with the computer that way. If you want to use a 360 controller with your PC you need to buy this OR a wireless one that specifically comes with a plug for the computer.
I hope this review is helpful for any potential buyers.

I feel like I'm late to everything that's new in tech, but I recently got a Xbox 360 Bundle that includes the wireless version of this same controller. I had some doubts about the efficiency of the wireless controller, so I picked up a wired one as well.

Despite my doubts, the battery for the wireless controller has met the expectations of 40 hours of usage and I haven't experienced any issues.

Wireless is great for playing solo, but for the times when you play with others, wired controllers are key and will cut back on using batteries. The wire extends 9 feet, which is plenty far for typical gaming. I don't expect I or anyone I'm playing with will need to be farther than 9 feet away from the console. Well, maybe... but 9 feet is a reasonable limit.

As for the feel in my hands, it's one of the more comfortable and ergonomic controllers I've ever held. And it's lighter than the wireless version since there aren't any batteries. I don't have a preference for weight, but it's something to consider. I'm seriously considering buy a couple more wired controllers for when company is over.

The Xbox 360 controller is one of the greatest controllers ever designed, at least in terms of comfort, aesthetic appeal, sturdiness and whatnot. The only flaw is that the wireless version takes two AA batteries and they only last a few hours. Being wireless is novel for a while, but eventually the constant replacement of dead batteries got on my nerves. I have a serious aversion to 3rd party peripherals and rechargeable batteries in general, so a rechargeable powerpack was not an option for me. I solved the issue by getting a wired controller. It's even more comfortable; it's lighter, and there's no battery pack in the way of my finger tips. I love it, I'll never go back to wireless.

The XBOX 360 wired controller is the best PC game controller out there. Many games available on the PC translate very well to a controller format since it's pretty common to see ports between the various platforms these days. It works just like it would on an XBOX and Windows 7 automatically recognizes and configures the controller for you. No complaints at all. I have two that I use frequently for gaming on the PC.

It works absolutely perfectly. I haven't had an issue with it at all. Highly recommended.

.:: Background ::.
I purchased a wired, black 360 controller in March, 2012 (about seven months ago). I've been using it to play both 360 and PC games.

Standard 360 controllers are, in my opinion, the most comfortable gamepads in the market, past or present. I've been using this particular pad primarily to play games which either are unwieldy to play without a pad (emulators, action games, etc.) or do not have proper mouse support (e.g. the original Dead Space). What I wouldn't recommend this (or any gamepad) for are first-person shooters; they're far too limited and imprecise for that. Essentially, what gamepads do well is movement, which often benefits from analog input.

Keep in mind that using a wireless 360 pad with a receiver for your PC comes with various response and recognition issues; if you're buying a 360 controller for your PC, a wired controller does the job without the hassle.

In the past, PC gamers use to collect peripherals for all kinds of games (flight sticks and steering wheels for simulators, for example). For some reason, there has recently been an increase in the population of gamers who dislike peripherals. However, in my opinion, a 360 controller should be standard equipment for any PC gamer. I can't recommend it enough.

[Good]

Durable: It lasts for years without any issues.

Ergonomic: This is the best game controller for comfort.

Wired: you don't have to worry about batteries.

Compatible for PC: This is great for PC with Steam games.

[Bad]

Wired: you have the inconvenience of dealing with a wire.

[Verdict]

I never fully appreciated how durable and ergonomic this controller was until I bought a 3rd party controller from Razer. Lesson: never buy a 3rd party controller.

If you want controller and you're playing games on either Xbox 360 or PC, there's nothing better.
