Microvision ROV,

This product does save time BUT, I use it on a mac using Delicious Library 2 (This was based on their recommendation) in which lies the problem. It's works extremely well after you connect it as a bluetooth device through the macs "setup bluetooth device assistant" then you can launch the Delicious 2 app and activate the bluetooth scanner. That is simple, straight forward and easy to do, the first time. After a few minutes of scanning the scanner disconnects from the computer most of the time in mid-scan of a book shelf or what ever pile of bar coded media you have. You have to rescan for the device on your mac, set it up as a bluetooth device/browse AGAIN, shut down delicious library and relaunch to recognize the bluetooth connection AGAIN and continuing from where you left off. I even went to the out-dated support site to double check drives and firmware to no benefit. I'm not sorry for the purchase. I does eliminate tons of cataloging and typing BUT, I have to link it two to three time in a half hour of time spent with this thing to get 40-50 books entered. Not a Mac friendly as advertised.

Additional software required for Mac compatibility,
By Laurie L. (Tacoma, WA) - See all my reviews

Like an earlier reviewer, I bought this bluetooth ROV scanner for use with Delicious Library 2. I, too, use a Mac (OS X 10.6.4). Configuring the device to operate with Delicious Library 2 was relatively easy; however, unlike the earlier reviewer, I quickly lost all patience having to return to my computer every few minutes to reconfigure and resume scanning. After switching to Readerware (a less visually appealing book cataloging program but more amenable to Library of Congress call number sorting), I haven't experienced the repeated shut-down/reconfiguration problem with Microvision's ROV scanner. Unfortunately, I DID have to FIRST purchase/download Microvision's Serial Magic Pro software for an additional $70 to make the bluetooth device compatible with both Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Readerware. So far, so good... but I've spent far more money and time than I'd intended to make this scanner work with my Mac as advertised. (BTW, Serial Magic Pro's installation did NOT prevent the scanner from continuing to disconnect while using Delicious Library. Alas.)

Works well for Book Scouting w/ PDA,

This item easily connects to a PDA via Bluetooth. So i can scan books without cables. I haven't had any issues with the unit. Make sure the PDA or computer you are using has Bluetooth. The first PDA I tried using this with didn't have Bluetooth.

supposed to be an improvement, but the opposite is true,

Like the previous two reviewers, I was forced to buy this more expensive scanner (had the flic which worked fine) and then could not get it to work well. I finally had to get rid of it and delicious library as well as they provided no opportunity to fix the situation. I spent over 50 hours of my life trying to get the thing to work. what a shame.

Better alternative,

Based on the several reviews I found here and on research on the web, I decided against buying this scanner.
I use Delicious library and wanted the scanner based on their recommendation. I found an alternative that works 100% in the AppStore. If you own an iPhone 4, you might really consider this. I managed to scan all my stuff in no time with this great App for under 9$. (iCody) [...] On the developers page, you find an App designed to bridge the scanner directly with Delicious Library. The App works over WiFi, and has intergrated storage for off-line use. This means real-time transfer to your Mac. It can also be used for other barcode scanning tasks.
