The stainless steel candy/deep frying thermometers do work in the microwave, They do not cause sparks and they don't even get hot. I have a Tyler stainless steel thermometer that I just finished using in my microwave to make peanut brittle and it worked wonderfully! I suggest you try it!!! I've had this thermometer for a long time but never had to nerve to try it in the microwave until I saw the response from SCott Showalter.

I have a Acu-rite microwave safe candy thermometer, but the company quit making them as they had problems with them. I also have been trying to find another one. You would think if we could put a man on the moon we could figure out a good microwave candy thermometer.

Thanks for the recommendation; I love to make candy in the microwave, but my temperature probe died!
