Being a middle child myself, it is something I share uniquely with my middle daughter. It is our special bond. I gave her this book two years ago at Christmas. We sat on the couch and I read it to her, barely seeing the last few pages over my tears. You see, she is now approaching her 25th birthday. She has lived all over the world, doing foreign exchanges in elementary and high school. When she was 18 she spent 6 months with Canada World Youth, living in Thailand for 3 months. Her undergrad degree was over 1100 miles away. Now she is working on her Masters degree 2700 miles away. There have been Christmases (birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, special occasions)when she is not there. While reading that book to my adult daughter, we laughed because we both understood EXACTLY the feelings the bear felt. I cried because I knew this moment was rare and I didn't want it to end. I also understand now that your birth order is always with you, guiding you, making you who you are.

This is a cute book that puts the focus on the middle child. It reminds the middle child that they are special. I got it for a 9 year old who is a slow reader. She could read the book well.
