I never knew what's Buddhism is about. Well, may be common knowing: re-incarnation, white clothes and Buddha was a king. My friend gave it to me. I listened it in my car for 3 month, from work to home, every day. Especially the second CD - Dharma, to me is a teaching. This set simply changed my life. I recommend it for anyone who is in any stage of life. Stop, realize and stop the drama of your life. Today I've read many other books, scripts and famous Buddhist works, but this will be always favorite.

Three British actors bring Buddhism's "Three jewels" to life in and engaging and entertaining manner. About 4 1/2 hours long. Includes history and teachings. If you are looking for on audio book to give you a good general knowledge of Buddhism, this is it. It may even spur you on to other teachings!

Being largely ignorant of the religion, I always found Buddhism to be little more than an odd philosophy masked as psuedo-religion. I bought the CD so that I could get a quick rundown of the the religion for my Easter Religion class (Religion 102). What I ended up doing after listening the the CD a few times was absorbing more literature on buddhism, and I have now converted. The CD was compelling--and it is so without sounding or being a overzealous propaganda recruiting tool. Loved it.

This book is a very good overview of Buddhism. It is divided into three parts: the life of the Buddha, the teachings of the Buddha (the Dharma), and the manifestations of the Buddha in life (the Sangha). Accompanying the three CDs is a 20 page booklet detailing the contents of each CD, and illustrations of deities from Buddhist art. The readers are easy to listen to. Excellent addition to a library.

This Audiobook "The Middle Way" is an excellent introduction to the
subject of Buddhism. The readers present the work respectfully and without any obvious attempt at conversion. I originally purchased this audiobook out of curiousity about Buddhism, and found out many useful things about it. A good listen, and a good work!

everything they say and more,

this audiobook is indeed very well-written, well-read, and well-produced, very entertaining, and an excellent starting place for someone interested in learning about Buddhism, but it goes beyond that as well.
I had sort of bounced off of Buddhism for years, being drawn to it over and over, but always finding it conveyed in a way either that I couldn't grasp or that couldn't hold my interest, until one day it occurred to me that, since I love stories and history, I should search for "Buddhism" and "story" together; I did, found this audiobook, and at last the path of Buddhism was opened to me. I've listened to it many times now and continue to do so, and one of the reasons is that while it's the best and most enjoyable introduction to Buddhism that I've found, it keeps challenging me as I grow in understanding. when I found this book, I had been unable - despite repeated efforts over the course of years - to even retain an understanding of what words like "Dharma" meant (I think part of it was the student just not being ready), but now this book has at last taken me to a point where I'm conversant in the basic terminology and concepts of Buddhism, and is keeping me studying and interested as I try to grasp what are to me some more advanced ideas like the Law of Conditionality and the Law of Dependent Origination. and it has also encouraged me to spend more time where I'm most likely to develop a real grasp of such concepts: in meditation. so yes: if you're interested not only in learning about how Buddhism came to be, but also in discovering the appeal it holds for smart, unconventional thinkers and in possibly embarking upon the path yourself, I don't think you could do better than to listen to this outstanding audiobook. |
