Midland GXT300 Radios, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Midland Xtra Talk GXT300VP3 10-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) (Electronics)
These radios seem to work very well. The voice clarity is excellent. I have motorolas, as well. I think the sound is as good, or better with Midland. The range is good, though I never get close to the 8 miles advertised. Any hill between you will block the communication, as seems true of any of these radios. My motorolas with only 1 watt, seem to have about the same range, and longer battery life.
What I don't like about these, is the fact that when the battery dies, it will not hold the settings. The channel reverts back to "1", regardless of the channel you were on. The battery meter seems useless. On motorola, it is displayed continuously, on Midland it apparently only comes on as it dies, not to helplful, there!!
When it comes to handsfree use, I like the Motorola earbuds much better than the headset Midland offers.
The supplied battery pack is not very good. Mine lasted a year of occasional use, then wouldn't hold a charge. Duracell AA rechargeables work well in it though.
All said, it is a very good radio, but I tend to like the features of the Motorolas better.
