As a wedding consultant/coordinator, I knew I needed to be able to communicate with my staff to make the event run smoother and in case of emergencies no matter where we were doing the ceremony/reception. After looking at many similar products I decided to take a chance on Midland and the surveillance earplugs. I must say it is great! My friend has a similar product, but hers does not measure to the radius and clarity of mines. Great investment!

We actually ordered these for our son's 7th birthday. We wanted something sturdy and durable, not some flimsy kid version. These certainly fit the bill - we have not had any issues with anything breaking (and he's a typical boy) and the range has worked well for us (a mile or so). We have not taken them any further, but for our purposes they work great! I love the rechargeable batteries (again, typical boy)and the holder - we just keep them in the recharger when they're not being used!

Great Radios - Good Range,

First of all, you will never get 20 miles with these or any other consumer radios - maybe on the moon surface you might get 19 miles... º
We used these radios to communicate between houses in our last vacation to South America. The houses were a little less than 1 mile apart (about 1000 meters), and we didn¡¦t have telephones, so these things were a great solution. This is a small town so there were no buildings bigger than a 3 story house in between, but this still a fairly populated area. The signal was very good inside the house and clear from the front door. My uncle took the other radio and was making calls within seconds with zero training. I tested the range and after 1 mile you hear a fair amount of static but still understandable, at 1.5 miles a lot of static and understand 75% of conversation at best ¡V lots of houses in between. Battery life was very good. We forgot the charger and we were able to use the radios for 3 days ¡V turning them off at night and using only as necessary. We eventually got the charger just in time (fyi). My uncle liked these radios so much he wanted to buy them from me before we left. I left them as a gift so they are still in South America and I am buying a new pair.

So far this has been the better pick for a relatively inexpensive walkie talkie as compared to a more expensive Motorola purchased last year. Clear voice.

20 Mile Range? More like 0.2 miles,
By Isaiah53 (Corinth, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Midland LXT340VP3 20-Mile 2-Way Radio Pair (Electronics)
Bought a set for my two boys so we can stay in touch when they visit their friends around the neighborhood. I was expecting to get close to 20 miles range as advertised on the box but when I took it out for a range test the same day I lost signal after less than 1/2 a mile. Beyond this point all you hear is static. Ran thru various configurations on the units to ensure I'm using high-power channels and have full battery charge but it made no difference. The 20 miles range is probably describing a two-way talk across a flat dessert or on the beach. If you plan to use it in a typical suburb don't expect to hear anything beyond half a mile. If you're in the city you will be lucky if you hear anything beyond the city block. Contacting manufacturer for a refund.

I gave these to my son for Christmas. I decided to buy these high quality two-way radios over some cheap "can't hear you in the next room" walkie-talkies... We've had lots of fun with these and I could see them coming in handy on family trips. I highly recommend this product for it's value and quality.

The one thing i like most about this radio is that there is no big on/off knob. The radio's i have used in the past have all had this knob and i always seemed to manage bumping that knob and turning the radio down so i never heard someone calling, it's not hard to do when you have several layers of clothes on. As many point out i don't believe that this radio really has a 20 mile range, just as that diet soda isn't really going to make you slim. But, they are just right for me and i use them mostly for hunting. The batteries are great and i can get a few days out of them without recharging. The only draw back is that the volume could go up a bit more for us old folks. Overall you can't go wrong for the price, i am sure you will be happy considering the low cost. And, if you happen to lose them or drop them from a tree, you haven't lost a fortune.

These walkie-talkies were purchased for the small school where I work to assist in contacting our first-aid responder/facilities manager wherever on the grounds he might be. They replaced a costlier (but lower quality) model purchased at Target after some fieldtripping students plugged the charger directly into a European wall socket. These Midlands have made me glad they did.
The sound on these is clear and crisp, and the channel spectrum is broad enough that we've had no problem avoiding interference. Our campus is only about an acre, so we haven't had reason to test the stated range, but they do just fine in our brick and reinforced concrete building that is essentially a Faraday cage and the bane of cordless phones and wireless networks. The call alert is also a nice feature, though annoying when pressed accidentally. I believe there is a lock on them to prevent accidental button presses, but I'm not that advanced a user and would hate to lose time in trying to figure out how to unlock it in an emergency! Overall, a great product for our short-range needs.

Good radio for recreational use. We took them camping and they worked on all the trails in the park. Clear conversation for up to two miles. We were in granite rocky areas with no interference. Compatible with our other two ways as well.

First of all the range in normal city conditions is no more than a single mile. I havent tried it in the desert but in the city its 1 or 2 miles tops.
That is normal with ALL GMRS radios so get over it. Very good features for the price but would of have loved VOX. Feels very solid. |
