It's could almost be sad to say that books about the midlife crisis have become relatively available. However, there is something very compelling about a writer baring her emotional soul to the anonymous reader.

In this case, Laura Lee Carter writes a very heartfelt and well-thought out chronicle of her journey through leaving an abusive marriage, losing her job in her late 40's and a hysterectomy to a successful rediscovery of self and a promising look at the next stage of her life.

Complete with a reference guide and peppered with motivating quotes and resources, Laura Lee's book is a quick read, sure to give you a boost of inspiration for managing your own midlife crisis!

Format: Paperback
After a series of mind-reeling changes in her life, including a divorce and the loss of her longtime job, Laura Lee Carter realized that she had a unique opportunity to honor her age and current age-related woes to emerge as the "Midlife Crisis Queen."

It was the creation of a sunroom in her dowdy post-divorce home that began Carter's journey to reinvent herself as a fulfilled, creative and caring woman willing to share that journey with others like herself.

Midlife Magic is personally written, and Carter speaks directly to the reader. At every paragraph, I found myself saying, "Why, she is writing about me! She gets me. My issues are real!"

Carter's first person style of writing is like having her sitting in my living room counseling me one on one. While I am not divorced, nor did I lose a job, Carter's book has what it takes to counsel people undergoing life changes of any kind.

Midlife Magic: Becoming the Person You are Inside is an enjoyable read that will let you take away exactly the advice you need while learning that you are not alone in your journey.

Kudos to Laura Lee Carter on her first book. May many follow!

Format: Paperback
Laura Lee Carter deals with compelling issues of midlife, including divorce, losing a job, and health problems. She describes her own experiences in honest, sometimes humorous, ways that always reflect hope and optimism. A good read for people of all ages, but especially for women who are 40 and older. We have all either been there or are heading there in one way or another. The short chapters could be read as a source of inspiration each morning for a month or so.

"Midlife Magic" is a useful companion for anyone transitioning through a midlife crisis. Laura Carter leads the way through the confusion of crisis to one of self discovery with her reassuring, encouraging and kind voice. As most people in crisis have limited attention spans, the format of short chapters is perfect. This book is a good friend to have during trying times.

This delightful little book offers insight into managing midlife crisis through short narratives recounting the author's own experience. Often humorous and witty, it sometimes left me chuckling, but also had me reflecting about my own midlife journey. It's a great read for anyone, but especially for those in or approaching midlife.
