Barely a buzz,

Alcohol free is a pretty good description. Shows the occasional bit of brilliance (title chorus could go somewhere, but doesn't), but for the most part it is just a pop diva recital. Instead of this song, try Neko Case.

Colbie Caillat's "Midnight Bottle" is supposed to be a daring&hard-hitting song about alcoholism. It's Caillat's chance to show that even though she's lived a somewhat sheltered life in Malibu&Hawaii, her father Steve produced Fleetwood Mac&she got famous thanks to an MTV reality show. It's gritty realism about the evils of drink."Midnight Bottle" is as intoxicating as grape juice. It's one of the cheeriest, sappiest songs about alcoholism. The song is sung from the perspective of a woman who finds comfort from the bottle. There's telling, instead of showing, with her basically "I'm so alone, this is how I find fulfillment." It's a poor me song! It's almost emo! Except My Chemical Romance would make this song more fun because Gerard Way wears mascara. If you want some intoxicating music, listen to Pink Martini,or Sia's "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" or Amy Winehouse's "Rehab." To this song,sing-no,no,no. |
