4.0 out of 5 stars Stacy Mitchhart - Worth Owning For I Don't Know Why and Double Crossed By Santa Claus, October 9, 2007

Mitchhart is a blues guitarist out of Nashville. I don't know all that much about him, but for a while Salem Hill guitarist / vocalist Michael Dearing was playing in Michhart's band (and appears on this album), and he sent me a copy of this disc to check out. The album was a pleasant surprise and contains some very nice material. The first 10 tracks are somewhat inconsistent and vary in quality. Mitchhart throws in several cool instrumentals that are very good. The vocal tracks are pretty typical electric blues and some of them I do not particularly care for (Home Wrecker and I Apologize come to mind), but there are also some very good tracks as well such as Things Have Changed and a duet with the previously mentioned Dearing on the rocking Every Time I Roll The Dice. The real highlight of this album, and what makes it worth owning, are the last two tracks. I Don't Know Why is an 11 minute blues scorcher with an outstanding elongated guitar solo from Mitchhart. This guy can really play and this is blues guitar at its best. The final track, Double Crossed By Santa Claus is a hilarious send up of old St Nick as only the blues can do it. Let's just say that presents aren't the only thing that Santa is delivering in this song. I don't know if Mitchhart ever plays outside of the Nashville area, but if he ever comes my way I would love to try to catch him live.
