3.0 out of 5 stars A warm collection of stories to inspire holiday spirit, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Midnight Clear (3 Novels in 1) (Paperback)
From the back cover:

Let It Snow by Debbie Macomber: Stranded in a snowstorm during the holidays, a spirited beauty and a very stubborn bachelor discover that the season of joy is the perfect time for love.

My Review: Only 92 pages, this book is very fast, light "escapist" reading, for those of us hopeless romantics who believe in true love and destiny. Highly enjoyable!

The Five Days of Christmas by Lindsay McKenna: Morgan Trayhern's toughest mercenary is about to find his heart this Christmas when his matchmaking boss puts him in the path of Montana's prettiest widow.

My Review: This is a beautful story about the healing power of love! While enjoyable to read, the dialogue was mildly annoying because it was very unnatural. It would have been better to present these thoughts in narrative form instead of having the characters say things that people would never say aloud to eachother. Despite that, this was still a very touching and heartwarming story! Abbie was such a loving and sympathetic woman, and the Christmas festivities provided a wonderful setting for the softening of mending of broken hearts.

Twins Under the Tree by Stella Bagwell: Pregnant with Twins, a young woman sets out to find the family she never knew and discovers the perfect father when she falls for a sexy cowboy.

My review: A sweet story about people who were burned by past relationships; a man who must learn to trust again, and the woman who shows him how. Although set at Christmastime, this wasn't as Christmas-y as the previous stories, but very nice just the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Christmas Romance, October 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Midnight Clear (3 Novels in 1) (Paperback)
From the back cover:

Celebrate the season with two brand-new stories and a cherished classic!

1) Let it Snow by Debbie Macomber
Stranded in a snowstorm during the holidays, a spirited beauty and a very stubborn bachelor discover that the season of joy is the perfect time for love.

2) The Five Days of Christmas by Lindsay McKenna
Morgan Trayhern's toughest mercenary is about to find his heart this Christmas when his matchmaking boss puts him in the path of Montana's prettiest widow.

3) Twins under the Tree by Stella Bagwell
Pregnant with twins, a young woman sets out to find the family she never knew--and discovers the perfect father when she falls for a sexy cowboy.

And my review:

The first story is a reissue, originally published in the very first edition of Silhouette Christmas Stories in 1986. In the normal Macomber tradition, it was squeaky clean, and "cute". Not a story with much angst, just a light read. Enjoyable, but not a stand-out. Four stars.

The second story is related to Lindsay McKenna's "Morgan's Mercenaries" series. I found that this story could stand alone. But the author is really bad for "head-hopping". The point of view would jump from him to her to him to her and back again. I found this rather distracting, but tried to get past it and finish the story. But I found the heroine's habit of constantly putting herself down very annoying. It seemed like a childish trick to get compliments, and I finally gave up. One star.

The last story I had high hopes for. So far, I have always enjoyed Stella Bagwell's work. But this one I couldn't finish. I just didn't find it believable, or tasteful, that a man would want to make love to a woman who's seven months pregnant with another man's twins. The heroine was supposed to be innocent, but her actions made me think "Slut!" Two stars, as it was enjoyable up until the point that they hopped into bed.

I would recommend trying to find this used, as I don't think it's really worth the extra $$ to buy it new. Only one story is worth reading, and it's borderline for being one worth re-reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stories that reminds you that Xmas is the Perfect time 4 Luv, January 12, 2002

This review is from: Midnight Clear (3 Novels in 1) (Paperback)
The stories where all thouching. All of them sweet. These 3 stories are perfect examples of how the holidays are a time to look in the heart and discover what is missing and to fill that void.
