4.0 out of 5 stars An above average game
Well I won't say that the load times are short because they aren't as you all know from reading every other review. They are the longest of any PSP game. But the game is very good. Frame rates aren't the greatest while racing but very good while just 'cruising' the city. The races are easier to win than NFS:Rivals and that makes this the BETTER game. NFS makes it almost...

3.0 out of 5 stars Load times suck, but it's a good game overall.
I have to agree with the other reviewers about the unusually long load times, and the somewhat skittish menus. However, this game is still a worth while purchase. The graphics are very nice and clear, gameplay is easy, and the replay value is high. I even liked to watch the intros and screen shots on this game. NFS makes it almost impossible to win races as they get harder. NFS AI makes almost no mistakes which is not realistic as nobody is perfect. This game is a whole lot of fun. The first city, "San Diego" has loads and loads of streets. The city isn't exactly like the real San Diego but many things are there like Petco park, Convention center and railed vehicles and the rollercoaster at Mission Bay. San Diego is my favorite city in the US!
I highly recommend this game even at the higher cost of $50. Many hours of programming went into the game at Rockstar which you have to give them credit for the long hours the workers had to endure to create this game. Rockstar- You Rock! Thanks for keeping us intertained!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!!, July 16, 2005

Midnight Club 3 is an awesome game. The partnership with DUB Magazine made the game a lot better. You can customize pretty much any part on the car, from the lisense plates and window tint colors, to the trim and NOS color. And with almost every upgrade, you can choose a custom color for it (window tints, neon colors, exhast color, etc).

Now I own Need For Speed Rivals and Midnight Club 3. And I have also rented Ridge Racers for a month at gamefly.com.

Now with Ridge Racers, nothing could be customized, except for the car color. And the races were really boring, you always started in last. The turning was kind of weird because you didn't turn, you slid. And there was no real music, just like intense elevator music. With the other two, you get actual songs to listen to while you race. This game isn't worth the $40, but might be worth the $20 to some people, to get a used copy, at gamefly.com.

Need For Speed Rivals is a pretty good game. Most things are customizable, but you had to choose from their colors, and almost everything was locked. With Midnight Club 3, almost everything was unlocked, you just can't afford everything yet. Need For Speed Rivals did have more race types, but you couldn't free-roam like on the PS2 version (Neeed For Speed Underground 2) or like on Mignight Club. Need For Speed Rivals was a great game at the PSP Launch, but now I give it about 3.5/5, after seeing Mignight Club 3. I guess Need For Speed Rivals is worth the $40, but go for midnight club if you can.

Now Midnight Club 3 for the PSP is awesome! I rented the PS2 version on gamefly.com for about a month, and both are almost identical. I have noticed only two major differences:

1. Slower loader times! It could take about 45 seconds to load the garage, or about a minute to load the free-roam mode, or a race. But it's still worth it, because you can go anywhere in the city, and check out any part in the garage.

2. Controls are pretty different from the PS2 version. Some features are on different buttons, but you get used to them in about 5-15 minutes.

Out of these three PSP racing games I say that Midnight Club 3 is a winner. It's definately worth the $50 (or $40 on eBay). If you don't believe me, maybe you should rent it at gamefly.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive..., June 29, 2005

I have always liked Midnight Club, and when I heard that It would be available for PSP I freaked. I picked up this game right when it came out and i am not dissapointed. The graphics are amazing, and even more impressive is that EVERYTHING FROM THE PS2 VERSION IS STILL HERE. Levels, Cars, and that awesome sense of speed. The only reason i gave it four stars is that the menus move slowly. I like responsiveness and when you push select in menus It takes a second to register. The load times are always under a minute for me and they're worth it for the graphics and gameplay. I just feel that the poor menus reflect badly on the game as making it look cheaply thrown together, and i assure you, this was NOT the case. Buy it if you like: Need For Speed: Underground 2 Rivals, Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, or Twisted Metal. Otherwise you might not have the patience to wait for the load times.

Rockstar Games has done it again. This is one of my favorite games on the PS2 and now on PSP. Graphics are outstanding, soundtrack is awesome. Game play is superb, with a story in the background, it adds realism to the game.

If you like street racing and love PSP, this is a game for you.

5 out of 5 on everything!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game but slow.., December 13, 2005

This review is from: Midnight Club 3 Dub Ed (Video Game)
This game is excellent! I got this as a present from my sister and it turned out to be great! The ggraphics are brilliant, game play is fantastic and so are the race tracks and music. The only con in the game is the loading time. IT IS SERIOUSLY slow! It takes about 30 seconds to load each race which very low to PSP game standards. I've got ridge racer and it takes about 5 seconds for that to load!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great game but ridiculous load time!!!, June 29, 2005

This review is from: Midnight Club 3 Dub Ed (Video Game)
This game is awesome; great graphics, fun to play, good number of cars, etc... However the load time is absolutely ridiculous. If you don't push any buttons while its loading the screen starts to go dark to save energy. Yep it takes that long. And because it takes so long to load comparing cars you want to buy is pretty annoying too cuz you have to wait for the car currently on the screen to burn out and drive off screen then for the car you want to look at to drive into place. But the second you're in the game it is all good. Just make sure you have something to do while you wait on the load times or you'll go nuts.

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Midnight Club 3 Dub Ed (Video Game)
Midnight Club is the best racing game ever. You can tell the handling on the cars. There are only a few flaws to this game like the Porsche you get is not a real Porsche it is a Gemballa. But it the car does go very fast. It is a there is very deep customizing. The people like the garage owners actually talk to you and encorage you or they say mean things. Great Game!

4.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, December 22, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Midnight Club 3 Dub Ed (Video Game)
Sloppy PSP ports are common, but the truth hurts sometimes, we accept them because we want to play them on the go. Lot's of people are afraid to admit it though. That's fine, but I will admit that for some games, t his one included. Midnight Club is a very good racing series, and this ons is a great game for just driving around. For the people who did not like the game because they were too tired to win it, you can easily download the game save onto your memory stick via USB.

Basically, the game is exactly like the console versions. You pimp out your car, you race, race race! The game has all the modes from the other game, so basically, it's the same thing, only with a couple port drawbacks. And here are they are.

THe obviuos are the load times. It takes a long time to load the game, the game's load times aren's as bad as some games, but they are pretty bad. The garage, the races, they are old plauged with some bad load times. At least they were not as bad as MX though. I will give ROckstar slack because this game was released before GTA portables, but it would be nice if they didn't make the game go slow when loading.

A couple of minor additions were left out. The race menus no longer shift to different parts of the city when selecting, but that did not bother me. The snow effects were left out, and rain dosen't look very good as it does on the consoles. You can't run over pedestrians, so the levels don't feel as populated. There is traffic though, though it does not look good, but MIdnight Club wasn't known for the cool traffic, so it does not matter. There is only one view of the car, and you can only use one button to choose songs, so if you miss your song, you have to scroll through the menus again, taking load times away and more battery life as well.

The graphcis were also a bit of a concern. This is the PSP, so I didn't expect the PSP version to look better on the Xbox version. However though, everything just isn't as gawdy as it does in the console version. THe draw-in was a little sketchy, the framerate could need some work, but it wasn't so glaring it was bad. The weather effects were lame compared to the console, but that did not bother me either. Adn lastly, did you ever drive around to look into the windows? People who have played the console version might have noticed that the windows are spectacular, theya re crystal clear and really make the city beautiful. IN this one, alot of the windows aren't so crystal clear, though they are not dark. IT still adds the effect of racing by lighted building windows and doors, so it dosen't hurt the game's score. But that was a bonus I loved in the console version I rented 5 times, but I kind of shook it off. HOwever, soem building interiors look damn good, and the game is really beautiful on the PSP, so it dosen't really show. Who looks so close at the screen anyway?

Other than that, I am really happened with Rockstar's first effort. It's a great port of the greatest street racing game. THe Need For Speed Underground series always sucked, so this game rules. You can't beat the exotics! IF you are a Midnight Club fan, then you will want to check this game out!
