It is 100% correct - this is NOT the music used in the film,
By
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
the music from the soundrack AS USED IN the film is far, far more atmospheric and interesting, but sadly this film came out during the height of the disco boom '78 and the soundtrack released by (Casablanca? who were at the forefront of the disco roadshow) reflected the way they thought the record would sell. Giorgio Moroder won the Oscar for his score on this film but the version on the CD is a remixed and revamped version meant for the clubs rather than a true representation of the music contained in the film - It would probably be financially ridiculous, but wouldnt it be great if there was to be a release of the music as used in the film rater than the fangled remixed version............

Why poor remixes ?!?!?!?!,
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This cd is remixed and NOT the original music used in the film. The music in the film is fantastic and imaginative but the cd is remixed with naff percussion making it sound all discoey. Don't waste your money if you want the original music.

Moroder Mesmerizes...,
By
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The Chase track clocking in at over 8 minutes is worth the price of the cd alone. This track strongly indentifies the pop-music style of the time . You don't have to strain your ears to realize the Moroder genius touch and Faltermeyer contributions that Chase sounds hauntingly similar to Donna Summer's I Feel Love and Our Love/Sunset People; of course this is no dumb coincidence.Yet, he avoids turning this into a notorious campy disco soundtrack. It is also comparable to Vangelis' BladeRunner theme (the pulsing futuristic synthesized sound). The next memorable track is Istanbul Blues. It's just that; a song done in blues fashion by a male singer named David Castle whose vocals are light and not at all heavy a la B.B. King. It's more a blue-eye soul/blues track. The end track theme is sung by a fascinating female vocalist named Chris Bennett who at times is reminiscent of a Diana Ross protogee with slight more vocal stamina. Some of the other remaining tracks are very haunting and eerie in not just an electronic sense but in an atmospheric way. At times these tracks make you forget it's a soundtrack to an American imprisoned in a Turkish jail. They sound as though they were written for a couple of horror scenes to a sci-fi thriller. The only disappointment is that the soundtrack is so short in length.

Moroder's favourite project,
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Giorgio Moroder is on record saying that 'Midnight Express' is his favourite project, and when I listen to his 1980's works, I agree with him. It's worth buying for the first track, "Chase" - 8 1/2 minutes of Moroder deluxe - although the other tracks are also good.

Moroder and Faltermeyer invent the cliches,
By
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The venerable "Chase" is not just the "Art Bell show theme" but one of the cornerstones of instrumental electronica. This album, along with Moroder and Summer's single "I Feel Love," had a profound influence on the compositional process for synthesized dance and trance music through the end of the century--create a beat, layer synthesizers over it, twist knobs for timbral variation, and layer over that a melody or incidental sound that doesn't really connect to the chords of the harmony. The blueprint for decades of experimentation to follow! The credit isn't Moroder's alone, of course, but he had a sense of the moment, and seized it here.Even though the quality of the recording isn't great by modern standards, you can't beat Faltermeyer's powerful but evasive flanged analog sound. He retained his ability to create catchy yet subtle synthesizer textures for many years--reaching his greatest popular success a few years later with "Axel F."

All Hail The Chase,
By A Customer

Need I say more, The Chase rocks. For all the true wrestling fans of the world The Chase was the theme music for Jim J Cornettes Midnight Express OF NWA Fame. Miroder has composed the greatest disco-techno beat to ever exist. It rocked in the late 70's and its still kickin but in 2001

This is not the original soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I'm watching the Midnight Express movie right now. The music on this CD is not the exact music in the movie. It's the same melody, but played with different instruments. I want the music from the movie soundtrack, not an immitation. This CD sounds like a phoney synthesizer, but the music in the movie sounds more authentic and real. The theme song sounds like chimes in the movie, but on the CD it's completely different -- sounds like a synthesizer. Where can I buy the version from the movie?? DON'T BUY THIS DISC IF YOU WANT THE ORIGINAL MOVIE MUSIC.

An absolute Masterpiece of a Soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This was the very first soundtrack I ever heard as a young man (recommended by my father - who still knows nothing about music) and we both liked it even then. As the years past and Moroder did plenty of other work this Soundtrack still stands as his best and is without doubt one of the best pieces of music to drive to. Even after all these years my Father still likes it although we have never agreed on another piece of music since!

you call this a soundtrack??,

I'm a big fan of the movie and loved the music in it; so I thought the soundtrack would be good too. Buyer beware: the music contained herein is NOT the same as in the movie. It's a lousy disco remix on most of them, and a lot of the tunes in the movie are conspicuously absent.

This review is from: Midnight Express: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The song "The Chase" (theme from Midnight Express) is the best song i ever heard. ^_^ I enjoy hearing it uploud, in my ears, in my cd player, thanks to Giorgio Moroder's genious talent for putting this song together. Even though i haven't watched the actually movie, i'm sure I'll enjoy it, along with the fabulous music composed in the film. Congrats, Giorogio, you made a wonderful master piece ^_^
